Nov 18, 2008 - Didn't realise Tony Hart was as camp as Kenneth Williams at the time. Oh the innocence of youth. That end theme for the RHG sho wuz fonky!!
agfagaevart Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Do you remember when he 'grew up' and did The Nighshift in the early '90s?
agfagaevart Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Did the Beeb really use the CGI clobe in the mid '80s?

Nov 18, 2008 - brilliant clip, but I reckon thats edited. I cant ever remember the Red Hand Gang being on at that stage of Take Hart. The Take Hart girls didnt come in until the last few series. And The Red Hand Gang was like a 70's thing. I reckon this clip is edited. Even so, its bloody brilliant. Bloody hell, I dont want to be 35 anymore.
oxygene65 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Yeah definately, The Red Hand Gang was a 70's thing. Listen to the music. And the theme tune to Take Hart is too Kraftwerk electro to be 70's, its the 80's. Nice edit. But you've taken a programme out the 70's and one out of the 80's LOL
davidmcn Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - The clip isn't edited - The Red Hand Gang was made in the 70s (I think it's a 1977 date on the credits) but was broadcast by the BBC in the early/mid 80s.
filmnet Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - This is NOT an edit, as far as I can tell. I clearly remember the Red Hand Gang being shown in the mid '80s. At 1:40, you can see a BBC1 slide with the Red Hand Gang which is in the 1985+ style, even.

Nov 18, 2008 - i remember tony hart very well from when i was a kid! the funny thing is that when i see him now all these years later i immediatly think "fucking hell! it was so obvious that he was a complete fag!" of course we know nothing about that sort of stuff at 6 years old

Nov 18, 2008 - Wow, this is from the day I was born! :-D
hogarthy Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I wasn't born until 1977 and can definately remember the RHG being shown in the 80s. They used to show tons of old stuff in the mornings during school holidays, 'the Monkees' was on for years, and I can even remember old b&w serials from the 40s and 50s like 'King of the Rocketmen' being shown in the kids TV slot.

Nov 18, 2008 - wicked and nice to see the full version of Hart Beat, i loved this programme, the tv series Red Hand Gang was indeed shown in the 80's usuallly during mornings of the summer holidays. And yes the BBC had introuduced the C.O.W globe in the 80's, it was infact first aired Monday 18th Feb 1985
Ironlord2015 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I remember watching the Red Hand Gang quite distinctly when I was a kid in the 80's, It was a 70's show originally yes, but it was repeated WELL into the 80's & shown (as someone already said) on summer holiday mornings when we were off school. This video might just be from someones old tape who'd video'd it & it might just have happened to be on the tape before Hartbeat. I seem to recall Hartbeat being on in the afternoons after i'd come home from school ?
Ironlord2015 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Yes I remember it well, he used to come on at the beginning wielding a huge microphone and some out of breath camera man would be running after him and he used to say "hello, we're on the Nightshift again" in a really "oh god why do I do this" type of voice LOL. It was a crap 10 minute time filling program really, where he used to just wander into take aways at 2 in the morning and stuff ha ha. Bonkers! lol

Nov 18, 2008 - This is great!!Check out the BBC microcomputer graphics!!. They were so heavily used around that time, as 1985 was right in the middle of the home computer revolution.I used to own a sinclair zx81 and would get jealous at the amazing graphics on ceefax! The intro to Hart Beat uses a (then)new drum machine (Roland TR909)which itself went on to become a dance music legend, still revered today.Great to hear it in early use with its legendary future unabashedly evident.Great video.

Nov 18, 2008 - Orchestrations by Arthur Rubinstein? What a stupid waste. The black boy Doc was portrayed as socially uncool, very sinsister such a short time after the civil rights era. But if you were male and white, TRHG conveyed a discriminatory socially oppressive message against the right to wear shorts.
