Nov 18, 2008 - why is this one black and white but the next one color?
Strahdvon Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Because in between Episode 1 and 2 color became the new standard.
Strahdvon Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - The show came out in 1965, when did color TV become the standard?

fbcfayar Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - This is in black and white because: back in the day (1965) color film was expensive, so for the pilot episodes of new shows studios would film in black and white so if the show bombed they wouldn't lose as much money. The show didn't bomb, so they started filming in color

Nov 18, 2008 - "WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HONG KONG?!"I don't know why but I find that line (and the delivery of it) so incredibly hilarious.

Nov 18, 2008 - At the time the pilot episode was filmed, in early 1965, 'pan', NBC was still scheduling black and white series. When the network bought the series in February '65, they requested it be filmed in color, as 98% of their prime-time schedule would be telecast on color that fall {only MCA/Universal's "CONVOY" [because of actual stock footage] and Sidney Sheldon's "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" for Screen Gems/Columbia [HE wanted it in color, and they said, "Save your money"] were produced in black & white}.
fromthesidelines Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Max smoked on camera, 'Rimland', because his primary sponsor was R.J. Reynolds {Salem cigarettes}, and they wanted Don to "light up" at least once in every episode, including the "integrated" commercial (when Max delivered a humorous pitch for Salem) at the end of the episode...
