Nov 18, 2008 - Obviously the generic drivel that comes out of Hollywood every weekend is not among the great works. That being said, hundreds of great movies have been made in the last 110 years. To vault this one to the top is a little silly.

KriegUndFaustrecht Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Nah, you just don't understand it probably. It's a very dark and romantic and mysic movie which opens up thousands of feelings.

TheTallOne0689 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Oh that's a great argument. "You don't understand it". I have watched it more than once and read various essays on the subject and am studying film at a university. I understand it. It is a well done film. It has layers upon layers of metaphor and allusion. But it also has significant weaknesses and to ignore them and vault it into a spot on top of cinematic history that it is not even close to meriting is inane. And besides, being "dark" and "romantic" hardly makes a movie "good".

KriegUndFaustrecht Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I don't say forget the history of cinema and old cultmovies and put this movie on top of all that, but I just say that in modern movies Lynch is a master in creating beautiful art. Of course Fellini, Hitchcock, Scorsese, F.F. Coppola, Spielberg, Pasolini, etc, etc, etc, etc has their names in movie history too and is great directors too. I only wanted to say that Mulholland Drive is just one of the best films I've seen in later years.

KriegUndFaustrecht Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Why is it silly, I see Lynch's films (Eraserhead, Inland Empire, The Elephant Man and Lost Highway, etc.) as very very good movies and they bring so many interesting thoughts to my head, I don't say count any other director who has earned his place in cinema history out, just count Lynch in too because he is great.

TheTallOne0689 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - It is definitely an interesting film, I'm not saying it isn't. And Lynch is nothing if not risky. Whether or not this movie comes together is slightly subjective, though. Taken from a certain perspective it is spectacular, but I could definitely MAKE the argument that it isn't. This isn't to demean it in any way, I just think your original statement that it was the best movie every is hyperbolic. But you probably meant it to be.

KriegUndFaustrecht Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Hehe, I almost mostly like it for it's whole, but the technical stuff in this movie I love, for example the music and the intro when they drive on mulholland dr. and Lynch films the city of L.A. so beautiful in the night. Inland Empire was great too.

wargrave232 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - This is the greatest movie ever made.

massodintoronto Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I don't think that is a perfect movie. there is lots of incorrectness in the movie and people can't undrestand the meaning. However the afraid to say that. If you say that there is lots of layers in the film, I agree but some of those layer aren't perfectly fit the rest. that is the bigest weakness of Movie. After all there is nothing arising from the complexity of the movie. It's just beautyful. I would say it's sillt beautyful

Nov 18, 2008 - Really AMAZING. Rarely a movie affected me so much emotionally. Love the Lynch's colleteral worlds.

BSlegt Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - The best movie I have ever seen , Kept thinking about it for 1 hole week after I've seen it.

DianeSelwyn87 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I'm probably crazy but as a guy who loves both Mulholland Drive and Pink Floyd, I think this would be AMAZING as a "rock opera" in the style of The Wall, full of deranged animation and awesome, freaky songs. I've often wondered what Diane Selwyn's personal "Trial" would be like.

7lartceps Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Absolutely incredible film, one of the best films ever made.Long live lynch and his transcendental weird films.

slartibartfazt Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - it is a mysterious movie.. i wonder if it is a "meaning" ... i think allot of people "worship" it because they dont get it, and then it have to be real good?.. each to its own...even movie critics are sheeps.

drplbiftin Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - maybe people love it because it's such an intoxicating, atmospheric film?

OneLastMeal Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Open interpretation... Yeah it's one of those films like Duneor Santa Sangre... dreamlike, trippy, maze with no exit. One must watch MD on acid... very bad trip.

mousehead2000 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - SPOILER...SPOILER....SPOILER...this is the simplest movie to understand. lynch almost screams its meaning to you in your face! THERE IS NO BAND, "NOW I'M IN THIS DREAMPLACE!"...like lost highway this is a movie about wishful thinking and the clash between desire and reality.

mousehead2000 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - the movie starts with her going to sleep and then she literally 'wakes up' 2/3s of the way into the movie...not becoming someone else but being who she really is. depressed Diane Selwyn after having committed a very terrible act. a heartbreaking movie..

phunboy Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Yes, it's about a character dreaming a new identity , according to a dream-logic, reflecting her guilt and frustrated desires. Folk who watch this and go "I don't understand, it's so confusing!", I wonder if they just haven't been paying attention! But...I think the film retains the ambiguity that the world of Betty and Rita could be another plane of reality, not just Diane's dream. Is the portal just sleep? Like Twin Peaks, it can have a genuinely supernatural interpretation. I love this film!

nyarmb Says:
