Nov 18, 2008 - Mine too, and it has been such a pleasure uploading it. You don't hear people speaking so beautifully nowadays, and the whole thing was so beautifully acted. Thank you for your lovely comments.

Nov 18, 2008 - Thanks for uploading beautiful old movies like this one, my favorite. We don't have this kind of movies anymore. All we have now is bad and foul language in the movies.

Nov 18, 2008 - Gone are the days when you had such talented and beautiful people in the films. Back then the technology wasn't as advanced and it was down to their skill and experience. Many of the current day "stars" have much to learn from their predecessors. That was a touching and heartwarming film and so beautifully done. A film like that is a rarity nowadays.

Nov 18, 2008 - My favourite film ever; so lovely to find it here. Crying, as ever, watching this final scene.

Nov 18, 2008 - Black and white allows you to focus more on the people. A time when people respected each other more than they do today. I was going to buy this movie because I had never seen it. Out of curiosity I thought I would look at a scene on you tube. What a surprise to see the whole movie. I feel like I just recieved a really good gift. So much cleaner and moral than the movies today. My wife will love it. Thank you very much for your 4**** gift. "Tomorrow is Forever" is the other movie I want to see.

Nov 18, 2008 - Thank you for uploading this movie, it really is lovely. If you enjoyed this another to look at is "The Enchanted Cottage" from the same era I think. Anyway, thanks again - my alltime favourite!

ashbyjay Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I liked 'The Enchanted Cottage' as well - Robert Young was a lovely actor. He was very good in a film about the Spanish Riding School called 'Florian' which I have on tape but not on DVD, unfortunately. Another weepy, of course! lol.

Nov 18, 2008 - omg thank you so much for putting this up!i got to watch up until this very part on tv and it was killing me not knowing the end.many thanks.

praguephotog Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - What a lovely film this is. I worked it out that, from the time they met to the final scene, 17 years had passed. Incredible to think that 14 of those years were of Paula/Margaret waiting for his memory to return.

ashbyjay Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - My goodness, 17 years! Ah, but it was worth waiting for that beautiful ending though, wasn't it! I read somewhere that the ending really was filmed last and that the cast and crew were quite upset that the making of this film was over.

praguephotog Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I believe it. My interpretation of the final scene is that Charles has finally realized his feelings for Margaret, just a few seconds before he remembers her as Paula.

ashbyjay Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I think you're right about this, Praguephotog, that the identities of the 'two' women are merging in his head and when he realises that he loves Margaret this allows his memories of Paula to return to him. I love the way this clip begins with the words 'The mist is lifting' - this was purely accidental on my part when I was making the clips - it was just one of those serendipidous things!

ClassicFilmFan Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Such a heart-warming&wonderful film!!(: I agree with praguephotog's theory too;I think the moment Charles says goodbye to Margaret when she leaves with the train,he already starts with realizing she means more to him than he thought before, although he may not be able to place these sudden feelings yet *the look in his eyes when he watches the train driving away!* until a short moment before that very last romantic part! Anyways, I have a new film in my all-time favorites list. For sure!

Nov 18, 2008 - Thank you somuch for uploading this wondeful film! I had seen it on TCM a few months back and absolutely loved it.To watch Paula long for Charles and trying to get him to remember anything of their past life when he was Smithy. Breaks my heart and wells my eyes up in tears everytime. It is the ending though, where Charles is remembering and when Paula calls out "Smithy" and he turns to see her and suddenly calls out "Paula", that really makes me cry, especially when they embrace.
