Nov 18, 2008 - John Baldry I remember him well I used to manage the Club Agogo in Newcasle upon Tyne at the time of The Animals my wife was a jazz singer of some repute. He came to our house after the show and would you believe fruit cake and tea!! at midnight!! and off he went into the moonlight clutching a great chunk of cake............what days they were!

TruthRaider Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Of course, this happened a long, long, long, long time ago when gay meant being happy, and you could get eight pints to the £, and if you stuck a postage stamp on up-side-dwon, the letter came back to you! England had style then! Even The Great Train Robber eat their cornflakes with their mouths closed. It's all now confind to the history books. Boo-ho-ho!

kallemansen Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Isn´t that Beryl Marsden instead of Jools? She used to be in Shotgun Express with Stewart and Auger before Auger and Driscoll became big.

Rhubba Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - You've got to be good if you can get Rod Stewart and Julie Driscoll as your backing singers!

Aptitude Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - 1. I remember seeing Shotgun Express with Rod the Mod Stewart and I'm sure Beryl Marsden at The Galaxy ( Rhythm & Blues) Club in Basingstoke around about 64/65, for anyone from Basingstoke reading this The Galaxy Club was in the Old Town Hall now the town museum and was run by two guys who managed West's the butchers shop.

Aptitude Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - 2. Use to cost about 5 bob to get in and anyone who was anyone in what became the British explosion played there, The Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green, The Animals, Georgie Fame, Alan Price etc. etc. and for a short while the resident band was John Mayal's Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton before he was well known. They also featured the occasional American blues singer, two of which stick in my memory, Sonny Boy Williamson and Sugar Pie DeSanto.
