Real nice blues - Kevin and Branford each take a chorus. As a commenter noted, that IS the late pianist Kenny Kirkland "Doctone" taking a solo as well. I wasn't sure as they don't show his face, but I checked other vids of him here on youtube and noticed the wide silver pinky ring on his right hand.

Nov 18, 2008 - I have a good guess as to what this is. Branford mentioned "Friday Night Videos". Therefore, the group playing was essentially NBC's "The Tonight Show Band" from the early 90's. Furthermore, "FNV's", which I didn't know was still on by then, was on NBC, so this must have been a cross-promotion deal where Branford hosted the show and the band played a song. Another hint as to when this video was done is when Branford mentions an upcoming video from Kris Kross. Where are THEY now?

Nov 18, 2008 - Hmm, it seems so.. disconnected until the solos kick in, then it turns almost into another piece..

Nov 18, 2008 - This may sound a little bit silly but do you have any idea what Doctone means? I know it's a piece by Branford Marsalis and Kenny Garrett also has a tune called (Doc Tone's short speech'.

Nov 18, 2008 - Doctone was Kenny Kirkland's nickname. I imagine it stands for "Doctor Tone". I'm not sure the entire history on when and how he got the nickname.
dec10 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I have a live recording where Wynton says, "We call him The Doctor because he can play all the instruments up here."That's from 1984 - I'm not sure when it became Doctone.
