Nov 18, 2008 - Enjoyed this tutorial. In response to your wondering why hdr's can be so noisy. It's my understanding that when Photomatix is evaluating images during conversion it can mistakenly consider noise as a "significant" detail in the image and decide to retain it for the hdr file. It's a tradeoff--if Photomatix finds noise in one of the exposures it's likely to think that you want to keep this detail that was only captured in one file so it actually "overvalues" it.
