Steamtown National Historic Site has made it a tradition to run a special steam excursion in the dead of winter. This is a particularly rare occasion, seeing as most other tourist lines do not operate their steam locomotives during the winter months. Pulled by Canadian National #3254, you will see how the difference in elevation has affected the snow accumulation along the line - there is very little snow near Scranton, but there are several inches just a little farther up the line.

Nov 18, 2008 - Excellent! Thank you for posting this. The rolling stock of the steam era (and since) were seldom in a shiney, just-out-of-the-box immaculate condition. It would have been vitually impossible to keep them that way. I think these passenger cars look authentic

Nov 18, 2008 - Very nice! I love steam in the snow. What camera did you film this with?

rollinswitch Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Nicely done video, I can tell you have an HD camera. However the train looks very dark on my display with little detail on the cars or engine being visible as they pass. The day looks dim and the snow is grayish. Is that my monitor going or is it the YouTube conversion darkening it?

Nov 18, 2008 - When i was a kid this train ran from Bellows Falls Vermont to my hometown. Every day in the summer she rolled into town around lunchtime. I thought every town had a steam train. I love steam power. I'd appreciate it today. Wish we still had her.
