CalicoatMaker Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Why do people think Wall Street is republican? 80% of wall street is democratic, crooked asshats. Success of the company has little to do with stock price. Not even C:E ratio is a telling factor. DCA is for suckers, too. You suckers that listen to the "buy and hold forever" theory are just that, SUCKERS. Taxes and inflation will steal all you ain, might as well spend it, as obama will find a way to tax your Roth. Freedom lost is NEVER regained. Suckers!

Nov 18, 2008 - anyone want a money making tip? Invest in what i call " fad business'". Buy into new businesses that start off well, they often go up, so you can sell for short bursts of profits.also, why are they called "Brokers"?

Plazman Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - 80% of Wall Street is Democratic? You question why people think it's 80% Republican, then you man an asinine statement like that? Could you please provide sources for that statement?

guillermoatilano Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - The people in wall street are all speculators, people who "buy low" and "sell high" just to make more profits, without even caring about the people, the workers, the blue collars. Capitalism is the whole problem of the world.

DarthBane123 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - That's for the better.

BMWpower335i Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - basically you are giving the company your money in order to fund their operations.so they take yours and other peoples money and create value (buying other companies, expanding, etc... if the company value goes up, then your equity (ownership) will go up also.Usually a company goes IPO if they need a lot of cash to fund whatever it is they are trying to do.if you own 51% of stock, if means that you control that company.this is a very simplistic example.

DarthBane123 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - oh, thank you for the info

scharb Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - According to dictionary, "broker" is originated from Middle English, meaning a retailer or peddler; from the Anglo-Norman French word "brocour," of unknown ultimate origin. I was gonna guess it had something to do with either breaking the news or with making a person go broke.

astalker Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - what a piece of shit. Is this really a schoolhouse rock? I don't remmeber it. No wonder we are in this situation if this is the crap they are promoting to the kids now.. PS the cartoon sucked.

videogamer810 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Don't worry about being downvoted. Most people just can't handle the fact that the economic system which has brought them so much happiness has also created so much suffering. But capitalism can be good if it's put on a leash. If, for example, it were illegal for any person or entity to have more than $500 million at any given time, that would lead to a greater number of smaller, more diverse companies.I'm not sure how any government could go about enforcing that, but we can dream.

interesting187 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I don't understand something thoughWhat's the point of stock? While owning part of the company, do you make money when they sell their product or what?

jk0621 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - if the company makes greater profit and has a perception of high growth, stock price will go up. so if you invest in a company that grows, you hope to gain from the stock price appreciation.companies also pay dividends out of their net income, which gives you cash.

Nov 18, 2008 - Not all stock pays dividends. Even Preferred stock can be sold with no provision for dividend payment. Once relegated to small and start up non-dividend-paying stocks are becoming more and more common.
