Jul 7, 2008 - Shortened, but THANX for a great tune !

Marantzguy Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Gene Parsons lives up in the Mendocino, Caspar, Fort Bragg area of Northern California and still manufactures the "String Bender".He performed for years with his ex-wife, Meridian Green, the daughter of famed folksinger, Bob Gibson. They are both amazing performers.

crosbystillsnash68 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - haha really he still makes the fuckin "string bender" that's wild man have you ever actually played a guitar with one on it? and is this the byrds? looks more like jethro tull or traffic or somethin shit everybody is rockin the charles manson mountain man look but mcguinn in particular looks (and sounds) terrible he's coked outta his mind and also possibly on smack i think i prefer the original byrds lineup (although sweetheart of the rodeo was pretty cool)

GreenManalishiUSA Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - A nice clip of the hairy Byrds, aka Roger's Cowboy Outfit. Must be pretty rare. You don't see as much of them as the "classic" '65 edition. Clarence White was truly amazing.

Marantzguy Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Hi, cs&n:I do not play guitar at all, though I own a few instruments these days. Well, I have to cop to knowing a few tunes, but you wouldn't want to listen to me!Anyway, I think that Gene Parsons makes a portion of his living manufacturing the String Bender units, doing some metal fabrication and best of all, playing about in this portion of Northern California. Thanks again! Rich LinksLinks SoundBerkeley, CA

Jul 7, 2008 - any idea how much a "string bender" costs and where i could order one (now i've read once the thing is screwed on your guitar it's not meant to be taken off right?) and i assume it'd fit on a telecaster with the old duel saddle bridge right?

enjoytab Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - this song is about taking a chick's virginity...don't get me wrong it's great! but i mean goddamn, read the lyrics. he's checkin' out a "fine lady" bathing, sneaks up on her, "gets his rope out", and then he's "damned if he don't land right on top of her" while she runs until she's "spooked by somethng, but it's just a sidewinder curled up and ready to strike" he "gives her his brand" and then he "falls down a crevice" and sees this "red thing comin' up at us." think on it people.

enjoytab Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - well this shorty clip cuts a major section of lyrics, listen to the original to understand what i mean!

thanksforthemusic Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - ...hell, could be...but I always took it as trying to find "one's own freedom...", so elusive and continuing the "quest"-the "fine lady" is one's own Peace of Mind..., just my 2 cents...

Jul 7, 2008 - Gene Parsons recorded a terrific album called "Kindling" in the early 70s. It's been re-issued as "The Kindling Collection" with some later Byrds, Burritos and Nashville West stuff added. Includes a great song "Wind and Rain" which he wrote right after Clarence was killed by a drunk driver. Beautiful song.

altstrasse Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Orig name was stringbender. Operates by pulling down on the neck, which moves top strap button end of an internal metal bar that runs down to a gear & cam that goes thru the body behind the B string saddle with the string end thru/around it. The cam is "tuned" to give a full step bend in the B string if pulled down all the way. You can finger any note on B string & use to great effect, usu NOT going a full step but a pass thru bend note. Fender makes em. Parson & White had a patent. Check ebay.

Jul 7, 2008 - the original recording is really beatiful. I`m from Brazil and very pleased to hear such beautiful lyrics

emersonrbrito Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - hey, man! i´m brazilian too!

Mikemaniax Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I'm a little bit suspicious about the lyric "She'll be just like a wife". Usually men have sex with their wives, so I don't think that the horse will be "just" like a wife, unless Roger McGuinn was into "inter-species erotica" at the time.

Detroit1967 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Nice tie, Roge, although you look a bit tired on German "Beat Club" TV. Dig the nice Country guitar licks as well.

muncher64 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - That song is all Clarence with his Tele B-bender. Great drumming too.

gradytuck Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - long live the byrds. rip clarence white.

Atoyota Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Love the song, but can't get over roger in a suit and tie! Just seems so out of place, and singing this song too boot!I wonder if they did 8 miles high during this gig LOL

zuck21 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - clarence was amazing and died too young

Doors121 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I do not recignise any of the origonal byrds members are they all the same members or are they all different.Help me out please

50sResearchCenter Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - The bearded lead singer is the only original Byrd left: Jim McGuinn (by then calling himself Roger McGuinn). The other members here are Clarence White (guitar), Gene Parsons (drums) and Skip Battin (bas). This line-up recorded the last couple of Byrds albums before the 1973 reunion album (on which the original team played). Roger should have stopped using the band name The Byrds after "The Notorious Byrd Brothers" or "Sweetheart of the rodeo". This line-up was more the Roger McGuinn Band.

50sResearchCenter Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Oh, in case you're wondering about the 5th member: the percussionist was a guy called Jim Seiter, who was never an "official" member of the band, he just rambled along on the 1971 tour.................

arcangel6 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Clarence was a frikkin MONSTER player!

bixbyglaser Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Roger McGuinn is the shit! Simply a legend...

1973pe Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - the same with black sabbath in the 80`s was the Iommi band
