Nov 18, 2008 - The appeal of Ue wo muite arukou (Sukiyaki)goes beyond mere nostalgia. I remember feeling that there was a haunting quality about Kyu Sakamoto's rendition of that song from the first time I heard it, back in 1963.

Nov 18, 2008 - This song (Sukiyaki) was my parents favorite. We lived in Japan in 1960 -63. My mother died in 1980 and my father has been trying to find this song. I was only 5-6 when I heard this song but remembered it like yesterday when I heard it. Beautiful memorial.

Nov 18, 2008 - After the crippled jumbo jet began to head toward its final crash site, Kyu Sakamoto hastily wrote a sayonara note to his wife. He was a very unselfish man who blessed others with his smile, attitude and beautiful songs. Thank you so much for posting this tribute.

Nov 18, 2008 - Lyrics (partial):It's all because of you,I'm feeling sad and blue You went away, Now my life is just a rainy day and I love you so, How much you'll never know You've gone away and left me lonely. Untouchable memoriesSeem to keep haunting me Another love so true, That once turned all my gray skies blue But you disappeared, Now my eyes are filled with tears And I'm wishing you were here With me soaked with love all my thoughts of you

Nov 18, 2008 - it shows tat a beautiful song transcends culture and language... wonderful song & hauntingly bitter-sweet whistling, of cos great melancholic voice brings out the real soul of the song. Sakamoto San, RIP!
