Aug 1997When the Boers of South Africa set off on their great Voortrek 160 years ago into the African hinterland, they wanted to set up their own Afrikaner homeland and escape British domination. Now a group of Afrikaners, many descended from the original Voortrekkers, are setting off again, this time to northern Mozambique. They fear that their farms at home are being swallowed up or given back to the newly affluent black and coloured South Africans. Many of the Afrikaners belong to the far right who have been active in the pursuit of an Afrikaner homeland. They claim that the move to Mozambique is merely to control their destiny. Mozambique's locals are not so sure the influx of Afrikaners is a good idea. Their forests are being felled and they fear losing their land. As the Mozambiquans stamp and sing at a traditional ceremony, the white South African families hold a separate church service thanking God for a good harvest. Can the two groups live in harmony and who will really benefit from this 'Second Great Trek.'?

Nov 18, 2008 - Agriculture needs a basis to build on. You will need some large commercial farms to develop things like importing machinery etc. Dont blame afrikaaners becasue they have the skills to farm commercially.

They know that they will have a fight on their hands if they nationalize the Afrikaners farms. The Afrikaners can forget their dream of a separate homeland. They are not originally from Africa. What gives them the right to their own country??It's totally absurd. Even if they did get their own piece of heaven on earth, they would become the next Israel, they would not live in piece.

But as fucked up as some afrikaaners can be some of them are actually good people and they feel they are being pushed aside in the new and marginalised in the New SA. So I can understand why they want a homeland. Anyway my point is that Africa needs people with skills so whether they are Black, Indian, Chinese or White these skills should not be wasted.

Nov 18, 2008 - America. The whites came into America and killed off the Red Indians long after the whites arrived in South Africa. So a lot of these comments can be laid at Americas door as well. (I cannot call Red Indians Native Americans as they were originally Mongolians from Russia - Its really very funny - the Native American is really a Russian lol)

But they are better integrated than the 10's millions of Africans that are flooding Europe. Also S.A. is the very very richest country of Africa.Before the whites where deported by Mugabe from Zim., Zim. was a wealthy and largest grain-producer of Africa, now it's a starving aids-country.

It would be impossible to have some many hundreds of millions of Africans alive now without white medicine invention and the capitalism. Nov 18, 2008 - The Boers are indeed from Africa as this is where they developed as a people. There were no Boer people in Europe before they developed on African soil out of the diverse people the VOC dumped there. The ancestors of the Boers were TAKEN out of Europe by the VOC & a portion of their ancestors were TAKEN out of Asia as well. Therefore the Boers are not a group of White Colonials but are in fact a homegrown culture indigenous to Africa. The Boers got started as a people when they lived as nomads.
