Nov 18, 2008 - One of the cool things about this song is the badly set up bass that buzzes on the frets at about 2 mins onwards. Even for a pro tools junkie like Steve I suspect he left it in as it way of making the recording sound original

Nov 18, 2008 - That's a playing technique not a badly set up bass. Its where you pull up on the string and let it slam down on the frets, I believe its called popping, part of the pop and slap technique commonly heard in a lot of funk.

Nov 18, 2008 - Mate, it's a badly set up bass. I've been playing and building basses for 20 years. The sound I was referring to was actually at 3:06 and it's due to a bass having poor set up ie the action is to low and is causing fret buzz. Sorry.

Nov 18, 2008 - I heard that sound also, but it could also be an error in the playing. You can produce a similar sound if your finger is a little too far from the fret and you let up on the pressure too much. Its probably an unfiled fret or low action but could always be a mistake :).
