(English subtitles). The Battle of Vaslui (also referred to as the Battle of Podul Înalt or the Battle of Racova) was fought on January 10, 1475, between Stephen III of Moldova and the Ottoman Beylerbeyi of Rumelia, Hadân Suleiman Pasha. The battle took place at Podul Înalt (the High Bridge), near the town of Vaslui, in Moldova (now part of eastern Romania). The Ottoman troops numbered up to 120,000, facing about 40,000 Moldavian troops, plus smaller numbers of allied and mercenary troops.Stephen inflicted on the Ottomans a decisive defeat that has been described as "the greatest ever secured by the Cross against Islam," with casualties, according to Venetian and Polish records, reaching beyond 40,000 on the Ottoman side. Mara Brankovic (Mara Hatun), who had formerly been the younger wife of Murad II, told a Venetian envoy that the invasion had been worst ever defeat for the Ottomans. Stephen was later awarded the title "Athleta Christi" (Champion of Christ) by Pope Sixtus IV, who referred to him as "Verus christiane fidei aletha" (The true defender of the Christian faith).According to the Polish chronicler Jan Długosz, Stephen did not celebrate his victory; instead, he fasted for forty days on bread and water and forbade anyone to attribute the victory to him, insisting that credit be given only to "The Lord".

Nov 18, 2008 - Moldova este pamant romanesc .... let me translate from romanian in moldavian:Moldova este pamant romanesc...same laguage :)))..so is one language ..romanian language..not moldavian language
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Yes but how come you get to call it romanian? Why not say all people in romania speak Moldovian, its true romanian is named after the country, and so if moldovan There is nothing wrong with that. If Romanian became the "name" of the official language then it would be like Moldova submitting to Romania.
badbloof Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - man,i m moldavian from Romania, end my language is Romanian,so..in Moldova all people speak Romanian...not moldavian,i never heard Moldavian language,Dont try to fake our history,Moldova is end it will be Romanian.
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Moldovian and romanian is the same exact language. But the reason you dont say I speak moldovian in romania is because your in romania. And most people in moldova say they speak moldovian, not because they want to be different but because its the name of the country. I WASNT talking about Moldova being romania im talking about the language you twit. And the only way Moldova would join romanian would be making the romanian federation. Man that would be awesome :)

Nov 18, 2008 - any of you ever heard about AMERICA?.. good.. they speak english .. not american...:) for those of you who think is american you're more than a dumbass..... so... the people in USA speak ENGLISH... except that is different than the ENGLISH spoken in United Kingdom . THE PURE english is spoken in Britany... and the english in USA has been altered.. by all the nations..this is how romanian has been altered by russians in MOLDOVA.. so IT'S ROMANIAN NOT MOLDAVIAN..
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Romanian is called Romanian because of the country 'Romania'. Get it???? Moldovan is called Moldovan because of the country of Moldova!! You would be implying that Romania and Moldova are one country. Which is incorrect since they are separate countries. So the correct term for you to identify your language would be Moldovan if your from Moldova. If anyone asks you say its the same as romanian because most people heard of romania more than moldova.
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - English is widespread and an impact of oversea colonialism which changed ALOT of things! Romanian/Moldovian is limited in 2 countries and 1 autonomy. Which is why theres dispute.

Prefer reintregirea Tarii

Nov 18, 2008 - You have no sense. What's the language in Belgium?Or Swiss? The language of Brazil is brazilian because they need to make the difference beteewn them and Portugal? There is no moldavian language, for the simple reason that moldavian is not recognised anywhere as a language.Moldavian language exists only in Moldavia, been promoted by russians like you.
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I have no sense? Do not be a pizda. The language in Brazil constitution is Portuguese. Because Nobody is pushing for unity between the 2 countries. If they were then Brazil would rename its language Brazilian, that is the political textbook agenda of dealing with unwanted unity. Same thing in Yugoslavia. The main language was Serbo-Croatian, Now in Bosnia its called Bosnian, in Croatia its called Croatian and in Serbia its Serbian.im not russian =) And its been promoted mostly by Moldovans.
Tiberiu1984 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - There are no moldovans. They are moldavian citizens with different nationalities ( romanians, russians, ukrainians). You, my friend belong probably to a non-romanian minority from Moldova, so you can speak about unwanted unity. I have a lot of romanian friends from Moldova and they all want unity. The comunist government is a puppet for the russians and do not respect the wishes of the people, saying always that Romania is pushing for something. The romanians from Moldova want unity, little lyer
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - we are a distinct group from romanians. We have more dacian in our blood than latin, we have not been romanized as much as dacians from wallachia and transylvania. You have many romanian friends who want unity and your going to use that example to convince me Moldovans want unity? There was a test done by an american research group in 2004 and 2006 across Moldova, 89% Consider themselves Moldovans instead of romanians and 80% want an independent Moldova. Romanians can go back to romania.
Tiberiu1984 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Have you seen the youtube videos about the Flower Bridge? have you ever read a foreign book of history, different from your soviet made history?Look, I understand why you talk like this, but that's not going to make cease to tell the truth. In 1812 half of Moldova was taken by russians and half remained under ottoman rule (with a great autonomy). The free part united with Vallachia in 1859 an considered themselves romanians. The russian part decided to join Romania in 1918, sayin they are also
Tiberiu1984 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - romanians. Who were those people? Why did they considered themselves romanians? Why did they called for romanian army to help them defeat the disordered russian troops? Why did the decided to unite with Romania without any claim, without any reserve? They were independent, like nowadays Moldova is. Why did they not remained like this if they were so distinct? I tell you this hoping you are just bad informed and not bad intended
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - No buddy your even worser informed than me, the people of Bessarabia were neutral for the unity. it was the politicians that decided unity was best, maybe for the time being it was best but now it is not best, they never called for romanian army which invaded Moldavian SSR by itself. That was in 1918 times change, Western Moldavia choose to join Romania and Eastern moldavia joined Russia and know chooses independence. Im not bad intented i know all sides of the story.
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - recently Moldova has been awakened into looking back into its history, into Dacia and into the medieval ages when we were a distinct country once again. Moldovans are more dacians, we do not want to join romania and lose our culture. Go visit Chisinau, Balti,Comrat, Soroca, Tighina, Cahul. All the leading centers in Moldova, and tell a Moldovan that he is NOt a Moldovan, that he is a romanian and that he is a brain-washed soviet. And i guarantee you that the result for you will not be good.
Tiberiu1984 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Would you be kind to give me a source for this stupidities? Dude, Eastern Moladavia doesn't exist. Bessarabia never joined Russia. It was stoeld, taken and that was twice. In 1812 Russia just took the east part of Moldova. That part become free in 1918, when the "great" Lenin, forced by the bad internal situation of Russia, accepted the right of the nations within the empire to decide what's good for them. It was no Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, instead was Democratic Moldavian Republic.
Tiberiu1984 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - This republic became independent and joined Romania on 27 march 1918. Why did they do that if they were not romanians? What was the Flower Bridge? Why did Stalin make a Moldavian SSR where today is Transnistria just to have it, so that they could later tell it was their land? What happened in 1940? Why did the population run away from russians if they were the good guys? You believe an invented story, my friend. Don't tell me I am bad informed. Just show me a single non-russian source for this.
glebbukov Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - im not your friend bruh. im really tired u ask too many questions which i could spend all night answering but im pretty sure ur going to keep on saying this pro-unity propaganda. Soviet Union was bad for taking families away from their homes in certain regions but im not going to get into that now.noapte buna.
