And most people in moldova say they speak moldovian, not because they want to be different but because its the name of the country. You would be implying that Romania and Moldova are one country. Which is incorrect since they are separate countries. So the correct term for you to identify your language would be Moldovan if your from Moldova. If anyone asks you say its the same as romanian because most people heard of romania more than moldova.

Nov 18, 2008 - No buddy your even worser informed than me, the people of Bessarabia were neutral for the unity. it was the politicians that decided unity was best, maybe for the time being it was best but now it is not best, they never called for romanian army which invaded Moldavian SSR by itself. That was in 1918 times change, Western Moldavia choose to join Romania and Eastern moldavia joined Russia and know chooses independence. Im not bad intented i know all sides of the story.

In 1812 Russia just took the east part of Moldova. That part become free in 1918, when the "great" Lenin, forced by the bad internal situation of Russia, accepted the right of the nations within the empire to decide what's good for them. It was no Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic,instead was Democratic Moldavian Republic.
