Nov 18, 2008 - I *LOVE* this song!! I've never actually heard it until today, but I found the music when I was 11 and started dissecting it. I kinda gave up on getting it right because I had small hands and could barely play an octave. This is exactly how I always dreamed that it should sound.

Nov 18, 2008 - Is this piece easier than Prelude in g op 23 no 5? Not that any piece is easy but is this one more "user friendly" than the prelude in g?
Masterjel Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - yes, definitely
flpsnk4848 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - i can play it but rachmaninovs interpretation is.... really crazy :DD

Nov 18, 2008 - Intense.. I can somewhat play this piece, but Rachmaninov's playing is just... awesome.
flpsnk4848 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - some his parts is abnormal fast and so on, i think he is better composer than interpret :)
smartbeing Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - What? Rachmaninov is considered one of the best pianists ever!
AngelicTyrant Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I totally disagree, this piece is way more involved than the opus 23 prelude, if played correctly.
AngelicTyrant Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - He wrote it. Who else better to interpret?
AngelicTyrant Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Yes he is, but after the 1938 performance of Horowitz playing his 3rd, Rach told him he would never play it again, because Horowitz did it better than him.
AngelicTyrant Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Yes he is, but after the 1938 performance of Horowitz playing his 3rd concerto, Rach told Vlad that he would never play the piece again because Horowitz played it better than him.

Nov 18, 2008 - his effortless technique always captivates me.
cometeova Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Rachy's too good.
OrangeSodaKing Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - yes this piece is easier than the g minor prelude. unless you play it like rach is in this video.
OrangeSodaKing Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - well, just because you write something doesn't mean it'll sound good NO MATTER how you play it. some parts are WAY too fast, like the ascending arpeggios for example.not taking away from rach as a player, because he is one of the best that ever existed, it's just that i like other people's interpretations better.
baiba4 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - what can I say? The master
ostrorawr Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I can't say that this version appeals to me at all. Dmitri Alexeev's however...
Brainstrain91 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Fantastic! Maybe if I listen to this a few thousand times my performance will measure on the same scale :)
Wasabi144 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - it's rach's piece. he can interpret any way he wants. If he wrote it, then his way is right.
JoannaRenae Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I love him.
shirtale Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - If this performance demands serious criticism then attention must be paid to the differing speeds here, and I don't just mean the slow bits and the fast bits! All the time baring in mind that this is a machine's interpretation of Rach's performance. There can be no doubting that this recording brings the composer's intentions together, unlike any of the other performances on Youtube.
Xenogfan43 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - to be fair, rach's performance of his elegie is absolutely un-paralleled and completely opened my eyes to what the piece should actually sound like.this one is similar, but not to such a great extent. flawless interpretation though, there isn't anything to criticize, its fantastic.
