Nov 18, 2008 - I on the other hand prefer the older version. His style aged like fine wine. Here, though still brilliant, he is not as free and energetic as his older version.
sungmi91 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - do you have any other DVDs of vengerov's?
SoCalTrojan Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - damn... and at age 16 to play this well... and then play 8 years later completely refined. amazing

Nov 18, 2008 - goddamn winds better stop rushing him..
fiddlinmatt Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Haven't studied the progression, but this is DEFINITELY not the Maxim we have today.
AbsoluteZ3R0 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - This one is much better don't you think?
fiddlinmatt Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Well it definitely comes off differently. I think the Maxim of today comes off really show-boating and like he just "owned that piece" or something (even though in reality he's a pretty humble and nice guy). But here, it comes off as refined and intense. Much better I honestly can't say because I really haven't seen or heard a lot of the Maxim of now, and I haven't even heard him live, so....
clavierubung Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - has anyone heard his recording of this concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic and Clauddio Abbado?that is fantastic.
mpc999STEP Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I Wish!

Nov 18, 2008 - This video was a little bit better than the first one but it did not finish!!! or it finish in the best part!!! Anyway it is fantastic!!!
temperatechimp Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I had a chance to see Vengerov live during his Proms performance in '06, but I ended up watching live on TV, and he reminded me of Spivakov. When was this performance, as he appears much younger and the violin is different - not as deep or rich sounding - and you can see he doesn't "take time" when he could have done so during certain parts of the piece. The Vengerov now is the end result of all those experiences, and he is better off because of them, and so are we!Pity he's cut down...

Nov 18, 2008 - i dunno why, but im not liking this, its sad... whys he playing like this? does anyone else notices somethin different on maxim?
zeronecrostarmozart Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - i think he's hair O.o and he is more young i think jaja
Zoso921 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - well he looks very young in this concert. also it's his style of playing, he is very emotional even to the point of distraction. but doesn't take away that he is an amazing musician.. i prefer heifetz version but you can't compare them, they're completely different
bernhardlanger Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - you can compare them very well, and you will come to the conclusion that heifetz is much better. still, at least i can watch this without wanting to puke, because this is young vengerov, not old one. the older is so terrible to watch with his facial "expressions"...
skaudie Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Really? I thought he was really fun to watch in his later years. Have you seen his master classes videos? quite entertaining.
penguinshin Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - hmm, i prefer perlman anyday because of perlman's warm sound, and the fact that maxim creates a sometimes harsh sound.
amati147 Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - I like this alot, and I love his sound but I strongly disagree with his head position.
NHCello Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Actually I do prefer this younger version to the other, depending on the spot. Interesting. Both are gorgeous, don't get me wrong. This one seems just a bit more contained and focused.
