Ben is a sweet-natured and lovable male crossbreed who came to the RSPCA in early 2007 after his elderly owner died. He seems to have led a very quiet, sheltered life alone with his owner and had apparently never seen road traffic before being brought into town to the RSPCA, though he is now used to it and is very happy to go out for long walks. He is thought to be about nine or ten years old. Ben is friendly with other dogs and with people too and is one of the most likable dogs to arrive at the RSPCA centre in the past year. He is a good-hearted dog with a gentle, mild-mannered, mellow personality. He is house-trained, very affectionate and his tail hardly ever stops wagging. An attempt to rehome Ben in a household with lively children proved unsuccessful, because he has never lived in a home where people rush around being noisy and he finds that kind of behaviour upsetting and frightening. Ben is a quiet dog who needs a quiet, calm home and mature owners without any children. He appears to be just a little bit hard of hearing and his eyesight isn't what it once was, so a new owner will need to make allowances for him and understand that he may occasionally be a little confused by what's going on around him and react accordingly. In all other respects he is a comparatively youthful dog who will need and enjoy regular walks and exercise. Ben is a precious and extremely lovable dog who deserves to be cherished and treasured for the rest of his life. He needs owners who are firm, fair, consistent and dog-knowledgable (as well as patient and loving) and who will make it clear to him where he fits into the hierarchy of their household. The staff and volunteers here all love Ben very much indeed because he is such.More pictures of Ben can be found here:http://rspcaderby.org.uk/adoption/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=1292and here:http://rspcaderby.org.uk/adoption/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=1034
