If you for example should travel back one second you would be back where you were one second ago. It would be like crashing into a wall.

If it's linear in the terms of non-parallell timelines that is. If parallell universes exist then the incident would branch off into A and B.

If I were to travel back to 1912 and tell the captain of the Titanic to avoid the iceberg and he did, then that would change a lot of lives and happenstance. However, if I were to only breathe, nothing would change.
