Jul 7, 2008 - What is simplemindedness? Not being able to accept more than one opinion maybe?

smavissimo Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Nope, not that. I'm talking about failing to recognize one's inability to follow these insanely melodic 64th note arpeggis. Then posting about how you've mischaracterized your inept listening skills by using an ad hominem argument against the music itself. This music is anything but random, it's typically too complex for the masses to process. So ya, get over the fact that some people are simple-minded and say dumb things that other brains are entitled to call out when they're bored and a fan.

gomisdangster Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - i'm not convinced that any jazz fan limits themselves only to "technical" music. that sounds like a very boring life to me, because there's nothing wrong with having an open minded musical palette. also, al is one of my favorite guitarists, but i've heard in an interview that he knows about 5 scales, so there goes your "most theory knowledgeable" claim. embracing free thought, is their true success, which is something you, smavissimo, should consider practicing.

smavissimo Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - rofl....can u cite that article?here's a quote, mr. informed: Guitar historian Robert Lynch states: "In the history of the electric guitar, no one figure has done more to advance the instrument in a purely technical manner than Mr. Di Meola. His total command of the various styles and scales is simply mind boggling. I feel privileged to have been able to study his work all these years."who said anything about limiting themselves to technical music? you are committing a straw man fallacy here

smavissimo Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - the fallacy is that i never said people should only listen to this kind of music. i'm targeting people who, naturally, lack the ability to listen to music proficiently. some of us (with talent) can pick out individual notes, remember complex melodic structures, and recall these things with utter clarity, etc...most people who aren't gifted like this will certainly have a hard time fully appreciating this kind of music, which in turn actually limits their "musical palette".

gomisdangster Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - my sole purpose in this argument was to defend someone's right to their opinion, and i succeeded. i don't intend to insult your intelligence or anyone else's, but i refuse to go back and forth with your superiority complex. keep it real.

Jul 7, 2008 - I don't mean to be a dick, but I'm pretty sure this video is not from 1974. This song (Medieval Overture) appeared on the album Romantic Warrior, which wasn't released until 1976.

Jul 7, 2008 - Seeing them in Philly in August. Can't wait! I was in high school playing this LP, doing my best Lenny White imitation.

buckethed Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - im seeing them in boston in august! its gonna be reel sweet!

TheKubrickian Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - baba u r 100% right - this can't be from 74 - I can't imagine they sat on this mind-blowing tune for 2 years before releasing it on Romantic Warrior - which is by the way one of the greatest albums of all time. Seeing them Aug 7 in NYC! Yeah Yeah!Peace.

quizzledorf Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - this song is fucking sweet. Everybody's parts are amazing. I wish I could be as smooth as Lenny White. The guy is awesome.

doubts Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - wonderful how they introduce eachother at the end. Cant wait to see this great band

jazzpiano10 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - tru dat, still waiting for the day. I did see airto flora chick and eddie gomez, which might be the closet I'll ever come to the real thing :(

janderson2000 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Actually it's incredibly lame

doubts Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Its all about the music. If you want fireworks and dancers, go see a justin concert.

janderson2000 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - If it's all about the music why do they have to go through that stupid rotating introduction promenade?

doubts Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I guess they wanted to show they are a band with respect for eachother`s talents. Nothing lame about that. These are some of the greatest and pioneering musicians... but humble and human. Compare that to the ego of some second rate pop singer. "thank you.. i love you all" oh, and... "buy my scent and you too can be like me" Last point.... who`s music have pop producers been sampling for 20years??? sorry.. just fancied a rant

zebopper Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Chick looks like he should be steering a gondola through the canals of Venice. Le band e il cantare sono bellissimo! Caio!

janderson2000 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Humble? Are you familiar with the personalities of Al, Stanley and Chick? Humble is not a word that comes to mind.

doubts Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Interviews ive seen/read show these guys to be respectful of musicians past and present. Chick always mentions his classical and jazz hero`s. Stanley seems very down to earth, as does Al.

janderson2000 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Al is an ego maniac...as is Chick. Al actually wanted to name cielo e terra "21st Century Guitar" after Julian Bream's 20th Century compilation of master guitar works. Can you imagine THAT ego...to think he's more advanced than the classical masters or that his guitar playing is somehow the pinnacle of modern guitar. Pleeez. Allan Holdsworth is the better example of humble genius.

doubts Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Oh well, Holdsworth is a yorkshireman I think which explains that. He and Frank Gambale are both top of my list [what do i know as a simple drummer!!] Mind you, at least most great drummers have there ego`s in check.
