Jul 7, 2008 - Professor Steve Pevnick started working with the Graphical Waterfall in the early 70s. In 1979 he patented it and used in shows and galleries. Since then he has found his way into shows around the world including the King of Thailand's 60th anniversary. The 3D matrix is a reality and can be seen on the Pevnick Design website as well as many other shows he has done for 3 decades.

Jul 7, 2008 - wouldn't colored water be better?

Ecire Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Just use bigger jets, this thing is awefully detailed. With bigger objects it wouldn't need to be as detailed :)

DeltaWound Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I suppose, but even with an image a tenth as detailed as that, you're still going to need a stupid (90,000) number of valves.Fact is, squaring a number is squaring a number :/.Still, I'd love to see such a thing. Perhaps a smaller 100 x 100 matrix?

Ecire Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - You just answered your own question.

DeltaWound Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Geeze, that was fast XD.LOL, what question?A 100 x 100 grid would be interesting, but it would lack the sheer presence this thing has. Would make a really neat thing to have, regardless.

Ecire Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - but how? how detailed are we talking? Are you talking about a creating the shape of a vehicle? You could easily get away with doing block letter logo's -- look at 8bit video game machines, they were able to pull of logos with little to no detail at all.

DeltaWound Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I'm thinking of being able to replicate the shape of any relatively complex object (a skull keeps popping into my head for some reason) at least to the point of it being recognizable. I think a 100 x 100 grid would be about the bare minimum you could get away with without actually having to make objects with it's low resolution in mind.

Ecire Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - haha another quick reply :p we seem to be sitting down at the same time :) and agreed on the grid, but then it begs the question of is it really worth it? i think it'd be cool fo SHO but yeah... i'm happy with one hose representing a tree :)

DeltaWound Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Well, considering there's no practical reason to do it, I'd say HELL YEAH it would be worth it. XDBut then by that logic, why not OVER do it? 9 million spouts might be a little much, but perhaps a "mere" quarter-million (500 x 500) grid would be possible?
