In this fourth installment of the Mendez Trumpet series, Mendez plays the virtuoso violin piece Zigeunerweisen. Mendez is in top form, which is pretty amazing considering how much he's already played and how out of breath he is from playing the Flight of the Bumble Bee in one breath just moments before. This piece showcases Mendez's brilliant lyrical abilities as well as his unrivaled technique. This performance is truly the work of the Master.

iluvsystemofadown Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - Well, you kind of just showed us you're the idiot. It's not "Are you idiot" it's "Are you AN idiot". Moron.

were2220 Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - I wish I was alive his day so I could of heard his sound in person , rather than thru the ages of antiquted recording equipment , nonetheless Mr. Mendez's musicality and perfection comes thru ... I'm glad for media tho for peserving treasures like these

Otakugima Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - this is some seriously inspiring stuff.... one of the best trumpet compositions I have ever heard no doubt!

Op139 Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - It's actually for violin...

Otakugima Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - no duh.... but it fits the trumpet extremely well

adriangiardino Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - in my personal opinion he is a great trumpetist but i like the violin version better

adriangiardino Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - im not a trumpetist (actually im a violinist) but does anyone know why does he lean back when he plays high notes? is it like a sort of breathing stuff? or something XD

WAKeele Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - English is obviously not this person's native language (lets hope!). So unless you can speak more than one language, you can't call a person a moron completely. A bad comment, yes, a moron, maybe, but you can't use that alone. I wish people on here would treat others with a little bit more respect and maybe pretend like you're talking in a face to face public forum.

WAKeele Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - Nope, it's showmanship. It actually can make it harder to play doing stuff like that. Even that takes practice to perfect.

stume618 Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - And how can you know that? What must for example Jean Baptiste Arbans tongue technique have been like for him to compose such excersises for the trumpet.

GodzRicko Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - amazing..... truly a Master of the Trumpet..

DblOSmith Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - Sometimes the music gets you moving, and when you're in the groove, it's hard to sit like a statue and play. Most musicians do it to one degree or another.

Nabokov51 Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - beyond belief

aaaaaaatchum Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - Awesome... awesome version (well, all the Mendez serie from your chanel). It could be nice to hear a "Zapateado" version, also from Sarasate. Eso sería ya la leche!. Thanks for share the videos!

globaltefl Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - I had the incredible priviledge of playing with him four times while in high school in the late 60s. NO ONE even today can come close to the clarity of his attack, especially his double tongue. He did practice 8 hours a day. He also could swim five lenghths of an olympic size swimming pool in one breath, breathing out a thin stream of air.And yes, he could circular breath and double tongue at the same time. What else do you want to know about Rafael Mendez.

jjohn211 Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - holy crap.. lol yea... he is the best trumpet player in history

Marshmallowmann Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - freakin insane... he's in a so much different league then i am... the style, mixed with the expression, passion, sense and emotion like no one else i've heard before. circular breath and double tongue at the same time - what else do you WANT as a trumpet player^^ - if you played long enough to do it - the perfect tone and power come from itself^^

fagottist Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - is that a bucket mute or a cup mute he uses?

fagottist Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - it's a funny thing because i am a bassoonist and i play many other instruments as wellbut the thing with the leaning back i's just sub-conscious. i only do it if i am playing the trumpet nothing else.
