Jul 7, 2008 - I know how to tell it's playback: Stevie Wonder would never ever lay his hands on the abysmal PPG Wave keyboard, if he played live.

ethermouse Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - likely that the audio/video is not perfectly synched. thats why you want to question the authenticity. consider this: would stevie wonder and the great herbie hancock ever be down for faking a performance? No.

Jayguy851 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Those effects items like the one dolby uses to make those gun shots may be faked but nothing else is.

dieeser Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - the song stevie plays is "go home", 1985 i think.

dieeser Says:

ratsouffle Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - They mimed it. There's a website by one of the people involved that's fairly detailed, all of the synth sounds were sequenced (predominantly done on Fairlight CMIs but with some other synths too) and prerecorded, then they mimed to record this sequence which may have been spliced into the rest of the award ceremony or it happened live.

floppypop Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - AHAHA THis is pre-recorded music, but live vocals!

eLeCtRiCrEtArD Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Gotta love it - haven't heard the term "mimed" since, well, the eighties.

Jul 7, 2008 - Oh boy, I'm glad the 80's are over! Can you smell the cheese? And, Herbie! I know a man needs to make aliving, but, wow... Anyway, thanks for the laughs!!!! Hahahahahaha!!!! Activate!!!!! Hahahahahah!P.S. Not that commercial music is any better nowadays!!!!

Jul 7, 2008 - oh come on i miss the 80's! good times

Brainstormer2302 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - the guy playing the TB303 'live' like a sampler. You could get away with it back then as it wasn't popularised until the end of the 80s, every electronic musician worth his salt knows exactly what they should sound like now. Got to love the '80s!

nvanzoeren Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - The guys plays a Roland TR606 like a fool with no brains. lol

kidtwist606 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - totally amazing!best bit tho is where Dolby "conducts" the other 3 for a few seconds... perhaps only stopping it as he realises he's conducting.... a blind man. hahaha. sweet.

zaiux Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - O'boye, I'm glad the 80's are over! True. But we have shit up to the neck nowadays...

maqster Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - What is that on Thomas Dolby's hip that he plays the first time?

blzbug242 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Dolby's not doing anything but acting like an idiot.

donottakethisname Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - If I'm not mistaken, it's a Roland TR-303. Which is yet another sign that it was prerecorded, because it's a drum machine and not a sampler which is what it's supposed to look like.

ReapearingDoubleChin Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Yeah, Thats a tr-303.

ReapearingDoubleChin Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Fuck you.

monkrecords Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - miss the eighties
