Here's compiz-fusion running on the ASUS eeepc 701. I've set mine up to dual boot with the stock Xandros on the SDD and Xubuntu on a 8Gb SDHC card - compiz is running under Xubuntu - with only 512Mb RAM and i910 3d intel chipset. Runs very smooth!

Jul 26, 2008 - this is a ritual to win a eeepc?

Jul 26, 2008 - I was going to do a similar thing - I was going to wait a couple of weeks to see if an ultraportable mac is released, but decided it would be insane to spend £700+ on a fancy macbook when I could spend just £220 on this.Mine (4Gb black) is coming tomorrow!

Jul 26, 2008 - The video card is doing most of the work. Intel cheapo card but still capable of basic 3D bitmap blits.

Jul 26, 2008 - EeePC is fun. Worth while, and 400$, big deal. But you definately need a full desktop/laptop for long term use, as this tiy machine gts hard to work on.

Dutchbest Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I think it'll work if you put the image on an USB stick and let the USB stick boot.

fottitiidiota Says:

bLaNGone Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I wonder: did you do this on standard settings or is it on 900mhz eeepc?

catfishy Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - aaahahahaha, you just made my day. I order mine next week! Whee!

drummingpariah Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - There's a 10" version that will (hopefully) be released sometime this year (2008). If you're going to be doing a lot of reading and don't mind passing up the bag space, that's the way to go.

tmason122 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - wow! I've always been a windows user all my life, and only recently I've realised what I'm missing out on. As my parents are getting me an Asus EEE Pc (8g) for my 18th I can't wait to try out all this different open source software! God, if I manage to run this on my eee pc my mates are going to be soooo jealous, can't wait! Goddamit why can't my b'day hurry up!

reinaldihno Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - as soon as you get the eeepc, you will have to download a different linux distribution and upload that onto the machine. this person uses xubuntu. other common linux distros include: ubuntu, pclinux, opensuse and fedora. please seek more info online when u get it.

DuzyMi Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - not 10" but 8,9"...10" version was cancelled a lot of time ago! for this while.

drummingpariah Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Thanks for the correction. I hadn't looked into it that carefully, but now that I have, you're absolutely right. 8.9" is just as good, if you ask me :)

DuzyMi Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - yeah I agree with you:) I agree with this compromise between size/weight and the usability:)

drummingpariah Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Mine is coming in today, I'm stoked.
