Sep 5, 2008 - The speed is staggering here, though not much faster than Rachmaninoff played it.The slow section is masterfully done, the voices emerging with astonishing clarity. And the picture is priceless.

Sep 5, 2008 - wow... just wow... nearly half a minute less than gilels... i didn't like the rush at the march sections (first and last) but the technique level, the mastery of the keys, and the imense emotion makes in my opinion even richter look childish in the middle section.

Sep 5, 2008 - Beautiful magical and classy... full of his style and totally paced within his control. I don't feel rushed at all and it's not about speed even though he played just as fast as Rachmaninov. It's jus...Perfect to my heartPerfect picture too ^^

Sep 5, 2008 - Technical problems and missed chords. I don't think I would have released it this way. It must have been during a concert, even though I heard no applause. Rubinstein often commented that Horowitz would release recordings with lots of technical problems unaddressed, but played at enormous speed. This is also true of Horowitz's recording of the Tschaikovsky Piano Concerto #1 with Toscanini. Just my opinion (and Rubinsteins). sanjosemike

Sep 5, 2008 - Horowitz was a genius player. Of course he was human!! There is so much beautiful playing in this performance. Let's enjoy it!!

Sep 5, 2008 - Well even if there are some mistakes and missing chords, his rubato and his intonation is just incredible... and that's what matters.

Sep 5, 2008 - Is this difficult to play (well, that is)?
erichvonhinken Says:
Sep 5, 2008 - Usually any piece is difficult to play well. Even something as simple as a Bach Invention.Theres so much more to learning a piece than the notes.
kevinw22011 Says:
Sep 5, 2008 - I'm currently working on this piece and have been for 2 months. I believe it the hardest of all the pieces I'm playing right now which include Chopin's Polonaise No.1 in C# sharp minor and Nocturne No. 15 in F minor along with Rachmaninov's Prelude in C# minor. Most interpretations I've heard are played much quicker than the Rachmaninov recorded performance, so if you're trying to play like that it just adds to the difficulty. The text itself is repetitive- romantic style. technical virtuosity
