Jul 26, 2008 - What a waste, a tragic waste aint it. I remember my whole family (cousins etc i never see now) going there when we were kids, dropped off by parents and left to it after paying to get in. Bemboms i mean. Not dreamland. Dream? More like nightmare land.. how can we sell it... It was safe fun and everyone in there was there for the same reason! to enjoy themselves, not now. Use benches. Something to do, Its just gone.

Jul 26, 2008 - I loved Dreamland when I was a kid. I used to go there every year for a holiday in the 60s with my parents who are saadly no longer with us. Dreamland should be brought back to what it was in the 60s. Why change it. It was a lovely place. Bring it back to Margate. It was after all Margates tradition.

Jul 26, 2008 - This has brought back a few memories, i am a 48 Y.O.Bloke who was born in margate - i left to come to Australia in 1973. Dreamland was a Saturday ritual as was the Sat morning pic's. I was back home in 03 for a Drapers mills / St johns reunion, had a blast with all the old lads - Pub crawling at all of the Margate Pubs i'll be over again this yearGood Luck & Best WishesBob Holden

Jul 26, 2008 - I have so many happy memories of Margate and Dreamland. From holidays and days out with my grangparents when I was young to many bank holiday weekend trips as a teenager and then bringing my own children down when they were younger. I remember the trains from London being packed and there was such a good atmosphere. It is so sad and such a waste to see it as it is. Thank god for the joke shop which still, somehow, survives. I bought a lovely crown there just recently!

Jul 26, 2008 - dreamland has gone under and the cinema went tits up. The nightclubs are poor (they have the odd good dj) the town is full of closed down shops and its full of troublemakers and weirdos high on crack. Anyone thinkin of coming to margate? my advice is dont!!

Jul 26, 2008 - Is this y the coaster got burnt down?(fukin developers)least it werent Tesco this time, they burn anything down if they wanna build a store, only way to get rid of listed buildings. That was a mental coaster i used to ride it on our hols. By the way it werent always a shit hole.
drwhofanclub Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - isnt it obvious??? why the scenic rollercoaster burnt down??? i think it is because the people who brought the land wanted to build houses BUT they couldnt becuase the scenic railway is listed and cant be knocked down...... hmmm????!?!?!?!!!!
PierreProcter Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - The developers, along with the Save Dreamland Campaign are in talks with various people about restoring the coaster. Blackpool Pleasure Beach have expressed interst in performing the restoration, using their vintage wood coaster expertise. I myself am even working on reverse engineering my own structural plans (originals don't seem availible) should they be of any possible benefit. It's looking rather like it will be rebuilt - in legal terms it's actually required due to its Grade II listing...

Jul 26, 2008 - This makes me sad. I spent so many of my childhood holidays here, and some of my teenage ones as well. I can remember what it used to be like. A great beautiful funfair with a double big wheel and a little steam train that used to run under our window. Margate also has one of the best beaches in the country. This is so depressing to watch.
cashelblue90 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - does anyone remember the old boy,who used to play the piano in a pub in the town centre, and there was always a older woman who used to remove some of her clothing, this was around 1985
Paulsb2005 Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - It was not just kewl, it was what made Margate and how was it treated for that? Turned into a scrotes hang out, no pay to get in, two entrances, half carpark which i must say is a rip off, people walking about and through it who dont even wanna be there, just nothing better to do or use as short cut. mm yeah wanna leave my kids for a second there dont we.
