http://www.HorseRaceGame.com This is Secretariat's historic 1973 Belmont Stakes victory. What makes this video different from all other Belmont 1973 footage on youtube? Well, the elongated coverage of the race. It is fun to see the actual initial response to this race by the commentators, the crowd etc.

Jul 26, 2008 - have you EVER heard of a difference of opinion & a preference of racing style etc? Maybe you haven't but I have & DO! Now go away & come back to me when your grammatical English is up to a standard that my 5 year old son wouldn't laugh at.

dy1geo Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The general point i am making is that there is a huge difference to our turf racing and your dirt - a lot of our tracks have undulations and horses run left and right handed and down hill and our races are more tactical and not run to speed. The trouble with American racing fans is that they have a very myopic racing view and disregard anything European, however in last few years we have have had Giants Causeway and Sakhee who had never raced on dirt nearly win the Breeders Cup Classic.

bbmtge Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The trouble with the Brits is they think they know everything...WE dont disregard European horses as champions like Nasrullah competely altered the breed here. Secretariat ran on grass and set a still standing track record.Stating an opinion is one thing...denegrating is another. So to you and aquamarinehead...piss on you!!!

bbmtge Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Limey idiots...kicked you out in the 1700's...saved your ass from the Germans...TWICE!!! It is YOU who need to learn an appreciation of America.

melshorse Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Fellow Horse Players,It matters not, past or present, turf or dirt - Secretariat was the greatest race horse for all time

dkjaerwdww Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - folks, don't worry: the way the brits are going, they'll all be speaking arabic in a couple generationsby the way, I have yet to see the british race horse that would give secretariat a run for his money. Just like British heavyweight boxers, the british university system and british dentistry, british "thorough-breds" pale alongside their north american counterparts 'tis just a fact, bloke

mylegsareswollen Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The thing to remember is that the horse that finished last had broken the Kentucky Derby record. If there were no colt named Secretariat, then Sham would have gone into the Belmont Stakes Saturday honored as the finest 3-year-old in America, an eight-length winner of the Kentucky Derby where he went the mile and a quarter faster than any winner in 98 years and an eight-length winner of the Preakness. There is, however, a colt named Secretariat.

mylegsareswollen Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - In the Derby he overtook Sham and beat him by two and a half lengths. In the Preakness he held Sham off by two and a half lengths. This time he and Sham dueled for the lead, and he beat Sham by more than a 16th of a mile. There is no better way to measure the class of the gorgeous red colt that owns the Triple Crown.

melc1949 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - bbmtge, it is you who needs to learn more. The Americans did not save the Brits from anything. You guys didn't even get into the either WWI or II until years after the tough fighting was over. During the Battle of Britain,(1941) the USA was selling steel to the Germans while they were carpet bombing England (1000 times worse than 9/11). This is off topic I realize, but your ignorance is very aggravating.

jtutankhamen Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Would your 5 year old son laugh at your ending a sentence in a preposition? We're way off topic here but bbmtge is right, you Euro's and your "stupid Americans" and revisionist history posts get sillier every day. Much as you hate it we don't write or speak the same English as you (we highjacked it really), nor do the Aussies or Canidians.. but then again they hate us too..F*** the whole lot of ya.

bbmtge Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - You needa history lesson if you think what you are posting is true. You obviously do not understand the definition of "carpet bombing" ; suggest you look up the Lufwaffe and their carrying capacity, etc. my fine Canadian fuck.

bbmtge Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Other suggestions. Look up phony war to better understand your timeline. Please tell me who got kicked out of France to the tune of hundreds of thousands of troops. To cmaplare the Battle of Britain to 9/11 ios simply sad on your part. Look up the casualty numbers, number of men serving, when the large scale fighting really started. You are an expert in denegration, nothing else.

bbmtge Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - The only reason I went at these folks, jtuk is because one of them referred to Sec as a nag. Opinions are one thing, but when the Eurotrash makes that kind of comment and states that their horse would have his way, then I am going to come out blazing.

dy1geo Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - bbmtge- Stick to horse racing.Fact - Sec's times are very impressive - my opinion is it would be interesting to see how he would have coped in the hustle and bustle of our Derby run more tactically? I have said he is best on dirt.Fact - American authorities lenient drugs policies - Big Brown was administered drugs that would not be allowed over here. You should watch our racing more. We now get your racing on TV over here and it gets boring on those oval flat tracks with races ran same.

bbmtge Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - dygeo...I suggest you advise your Eurotrash pals to stick to opinions if they dont want a fist in their throats. I also suggest you read what STATES allow steroids before you make your stupid comment about "American authorities" asshole.

melc1949 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - bbmtge is an ignorant boor and should be ignored. As for Secretariat, I don't think any horse would have beaten him on this particular day. He was spectacular in every way.As for dkjaerwdww, your attitude is pathetic.

dy1geo Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I prefer to stick to talking about the thoroughbred rather than being a keyboard warrior like bbmtge. The only reason i caught this on utube was after our presenters on US racing were discussing great US horses to ours and the comment on Big Brown and doping in America brought up.I can only personally think of Arazi in BC Juvenile '91, Shergar Epsom Derby '81 Sea Bird '65 Arc and Dancing Brave 86 Arc as matching single performances.Best performance arguably best all time thoroughbred?

melc1949 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I think that every horse is beatable on some days, and some horses are unbeatable on other days. The Belmont was Secretariat's unbeatable day. The match race with War Admiral was Seabiscuit's unbeatable day. It's futile trying to decide "the best". There are just days that belong to a certain horse at a certain time, and their accomplishment on their day is not to be compared to another horse's unbeatable day.

SmartyJones93 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - THESE ARGUMENTS ARE POINTLESS!!! Secretariat dominated the field impressively this day and was one fast stallion, everyone seems to agree to that fact. All this arguing about European VS. American racing is all pointless. No one is going to change their opinion. The horses are not going to care about who wins this argument! Just enjoy your favorites and stop arguing about who's best. FYI - I like both American and European, they're all fast and gorgeous! :)

docinohio Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - What is impressive in retrospect is unique but equally awesome way Sec won each TC race. In Derby, start last, methodically increase speed, and finish strong; Preakness, start last, rocket to 1st, and play catch me if you can (and nobody could; then Belmont, bolt to 1st, maintain blazing speed, toy with 2nd place Sham and then, ON HIS OWN, destroy the competition, the clock, and the track record. This showed the versatility and awesome flexibility and athleticism of Secretariat. RIP Big Red

Luchomusicgenius Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Sup? you gotta check this out it will blow your mind. (meetyourfling) c o m 11525236970datta

21shergar Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Wow! I can't believe a posting of Secretariat's supreme peformance has led to such vitriolic comments. This horse's run here is amazing. As for European excellence, I think dy1geo's list is good. Although not quite in the same league in terms of competition, I add Rock of Gibraltar's Irish 2000Gs - he came off the bit not once. As a lover of unstressed top class wins anywhere on the planet, can our American friends suggest some American equivalents to this racing fan? I'd love to view them.

pnutbutrncrackers Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Nevermind the arguing. I'm just going to say that when the camera has to pan backwards (at the finish) just to find another horse in the field (!), I get a lump in my throat.

knicksfan89 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - as respected bbc racing correspondent julian wilson said it was the greatest performance he ever saw and I cannot argue with him it was still absolutely staggering 35 years on and this was 11 years before I was born.

nuness20 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - It is beyond stupid to talk about light-raced European horses versus those from the U.S. Secretariat was the best, period. He never should have lost a race. I feel very lucky I saw the legend just weeks before he died in 1989. I flew 2,000 miles to see him, and he didn't disappoint. I also received a lock of his mane as a souvenir, which I still have.
