Jul 7, 2008 - John Adams was 61 years old when he took office 210 years ago. You were lucky to make it to 55 back then. Andrew Jackson was also 61 when he took office in 1829. There are some people who remain sharp as a tac well into there 70s 80s and 90s.

Jul 7, 2008 - Thanks tj for yr reply. When Adams COMPLETED HIS TERM in office he was still only 65 years old. McCain would be going on 72 on inauguration day. Sorry, there really are limits and I don't think he'd have the edge he'd need to make critical decisions. Reagan was bad enough. I'm not saying McCain's perspective and insights gained over time would not be valuable in some capacity, but in my opinion he's simply too far up in years to take on the job of a modern president in 2009, much less in 1797.

Jul 7, 2008 - dear lord, she's like 400 year old! is this supposed to convince us that mccain is young?think again.
tjlawson20 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Well I don't agree with you on Reagan but you seem to miss my point about Adams and Jackson. 61 in those days was fucking ancient and they did ok. btw if you havent seen any of that John Adams mini series you should check it out

Jul 7, 2008 - Thx for yr reply tj. Actually I do know a bit abt Adams, Jackson & their presidencies, from extensive reading over the decades. My husband's 4th great-grandfather knew both of them personally. They were both fascinating characters & each took some positive, as well as some reprehensible, actions as president. If anything, 18th century Americans led a healthier existence than we do today, due to exercise & diet. Avg. life expect. was lower due to infectious disease; today we have antibiotics.

Jul 7, 2008 - "North Vietnamese erected a monument to him in Hanoi. The Communist Vietnamese erected a bust of John McCain inside Vietnam. His defenders say that it is in tribute to the PAVN gunners that shot him down. When was the last time you visited a memorial to the American Military where there was a bust of the enemy?"
KaoriBlue Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Wow, is that really true?
ikekll Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - KaoriBlue, Of course, I can't say it's true. I don't remember where I got that quote from...I'm pressed for time at the moment and I promise to come back later and follo up. a quick google search got me this:w w w . counterpunch . org / cockburn04192008 . htmlIf you search for it, there are pictures on the net of the memorial "statue" in NoVietnam of him...bbl...

Jul 7, 2008 - KaoriBlue,As I mentioned earlier, I can't say yes or no...it's an issue McCain hopefully might address. Here is a pic of the memorial. I'll put the link on my personal page (for a few days) If the link isn't working, check for extra spaces. h t t p : // img140 . imageshack . us / img140 / 4433/ johnmccainmc4 . jpg
ikekll Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - KaoriBlue, the link to the image is on my homepage...and as I mentioned, I don't know if it's true or not. McCain might address the issue at some point before the election.

Jul 7, 2008 - Keep drinking that Kool Aid. How did your husband's 4th great-grandfather know them?
ReganMM1981 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Don't think so. Who told you that?
ReganMM1981 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - So what exactly is the age limit in which you cannot allow your mother to be in your political ads without "trying a bit too hard to say...I'm really not so old...see how old my mother is?"
Verified1 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Never much cared for Kool Aid Regan, but thanks for being the six thousandth person to use that line. And re: your question on ancestry, for the sake of anonymity, I'll just say they were political associates. Adams didn't think much of him but Jackson had a lot of admiration for him. I'll let you do the research since you seem to like it so much. Hopefully it will give you practice in doing actual fact hunting - I believe you can use a little practice in that regard if you support McCain.:-)
Conservativesaregood Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - They put that up because John Mccain was a model prisoner
Verified1 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Yes, tj, it actually did occur to me that his mother wanted to do this. I'd probably do the same if I were his mother. The point is that he's trying a bit too hard to say...I'm really not so old...see how old my mother is? He's trying to head off concerns that his age is a factor in the election. I believe it is. He's older than me & I think I'm too old to be president. If John Sidney McCain had his mother talk about senior issues, then the comparison to B H Obama's children would be accurate.
