China didn't really want to come to Korean War neither Chinese government because back then China still had its own civil war going on. This was a war that never supposed to happen. I know this war killed more than 140k Chinese soldiers and left a total of more than 360k casualties. Hope we are not involved in any wars in the future.

Jul 7, 2008 - China only became involve in the Korean War after the U.S airforce bombed Chinese cities in Jilin provence. They had just established a new government a few months earlier and needed time to stabilise the situation but Mc Arthur forced their hand by attempting to invade. If the US had been able to restrain itself to destroying one country then it may have won the Korean War.

Jul 7, 2008 - I was kind of under the impression they did not want a hostile power on their border - after all, Japan occupied first Manchuria from Korea, which was then a Japanese colony, and then invaded the rest of China in 1937. In 1950, even the Americans thought Chinese fear of foreign troops on their border was genuine.

Jul 7, 2008 - Quite simple. Korea was a Japanese colony from 1910 until 1945. This provided Japan with a base for intervening in Manchuria, as a quick glance at a map will reveal that Manchuria and Korea are next to each other.
