Jul 26, 2008 - You wouldn't have heard about BVSC without Ry. Aside from the fact he made them a household name, he's also a virtuoso that can essentially pick up any stringed instrument and play it like he has been for years. His guitar sounds far from "squeaky", and he's a genius. BVSC would not have become what they had if it weren't for Cooder.

Jul 26, 2008 - I agree that credit is due to Ry Cooder. This number by the BVSC has got to be better known than anything performed by Cooder alone. And it's not only the Buena Vista Social Club; he's helped musicians from Africa and Asia to gain listeners, fans, and fame. Ry Cooder doesn't seem to have a big ego at all, and he strikes me as a very serious and talented musician.
