Jul 7, 2008 - For me this show was Lloyd Webbers masterpiece. Keep the Phantom , give me this.
WonderGirl732 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - phenomenal.....I agree with familydayout....keep that "other" musical this one was the best

Jul 7, 2008 - I definately feel that Glenn was AMAZING. But...so was Patti. I think they tackled the role differently. It's apples and oranges, I think. I mean...what do I know but...I find it hard to make such a firm distinction between the two. I found two different STARS performing the same role in two different ways. I love both of them...but for the difference in their individual styles of "Norma". Cheers bro! -
timmay973nj Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Patti captured the "majesty" of Norma...but Glenn owns the "crazy" Norma.
familydayout Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - TIMMAYI've been luck enough to see Norma Desmond played by Betty Buckley, Diane Carroll, Elaine Paige ( England) Petula Clark ( England). I found they all bought their own personality to the role. They were all fabulous. WOW WHAT A SHOW SUNSET IS... KEEP THE REST !!

Jul 7, 2008 - Patti's performaned better.

Jul 7, 2008 - Oh My God...if you had been there in the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles...when Glenn makes that first entrance at the top of that over-the-top staircase...and don't even talk about when that entire set levitates to show the Drug Store.I can't even begin to describe the gasp and the awe as she sang her way down that winding staircase...then fast forward to her arrival at the Studio and "the magic in the making,"...this song makes me so wish I had been there, when making movies was magical.

Jul 7, 2008 - My god! Glenn Close is magnificent.
Artwaycon Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - betty buckley defined the role hands down......the rest were shadows compared to her performance. glenn close as a singer is a travesty......

Jul 7, 2008 - Just a reply to a lot of comments I've read here:There is no 'who is better'. You can only do the best of the job and succeed at it. Glenn Close succeeds. Her voice, her acting and her stage presence is top form. If you expect the original performance for everything then you might as well forget it ever existed. Times change :) Why not appreciate the newer performances and cherish the old ones?

Jul 7, 2008 - She does a very good job. Not who I grew up with but I enjoyed her performance. :)

Jul 7, 2008 - Patti LuPwns.
arabellabishop Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - it's really her role. I love her in it.

Jul 7, 2008 - Sunset Blvd. was the first musical I saw on Broadway and Glenn was absolutely awesome. She autographed my playbill for me and was very gracious. She certainly deserved the Tony for her performance.
thejollyroger2008 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - she rocks my world. this is Andrew Lloyd Webber's best musical in my opinion...
AdArmand Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Patti lacks any vulnerability. Her Norma is a complete misfire.
HighKingTurgon Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - webber's best musical is "Aspects of Love". Or "Evita". This show is pretty hit-and-miss. When it's good, it's amazing; but when it's bad, it's terrible. "with One Look" is one of the singularly most beautiful songs ever written, but for every "WOL", there's a "Surrender".
HighKingTurgon Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - We're all talking about Gelnn and Patti and Betty. But what about Gloria Swanson? SHE defined Norma Desmond way back in 1950.
Milliardo5 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - This is pure stage presence. The moment I saw this on DVD, I thought that this is how one should act. Great performance by Glenn Close. It's the best I've seen on the concert/tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber IMO.
Selendomono Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Great acting, but patti really does sing better. And people seem to think that because the character isnt a singer the actor shouldnt be either. Is Joe Gillis a singer? No and yet we want him to sing. I think put pattis singing with this ladys acting together and we get uber norma!
N0vakDj Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - She doesn't.

Jul 7, 2008 - You've been robbed of an Oscar, Ms. Close, but I'd take your Emmys and Tony any day!
