Jul 7, 2008 - im about to upgrade to a D300 and this review is cracking mate, really useful. i wonder if you'd reccomend the best place to buy just the body from? im thinking warehouse express, but a more knowledagble suggestion would be appreciated.

dombower Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - i got mine on line from digital rev off ebay, i was a bit worried using ebay and i dont like paypal but i was able to do a deposit at the bank and it came in about 5 working days so i would really recomend them. they are also super cheap.

3ULLIT Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Great video my son! I cant wait to get mine! It kills the 5D also.

bl4ckprint Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I'm a Nikon shooter, but even I have to point out a flaw in that statement, 3ULLIT. For sports and photojournalism, the D300 is probably better suited. But the Canon 5D and Nikon D300 are for two completely different things. The 5D has a full frame sensor. It has lower noise at higher ISO's than even the D300, and it's much sharper. However, it's also much slower. The 5D is better for landscape and portrait photography. D300 is for.. well.. everything else :P

3ULLIT Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Dont think so that the D300 would be worst in noise then the 5D, even if its fullframe.

Elixmannen Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - You didn't shoot 8 fps when you hade the grip on. It still was 6 fps. You have to have 8 AA batteries inside the grip and set the camera to use the grip battery first. Otherwise it won't work. I assume you already know that :P Nice vidoe btw.

dombower Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - yeah it was a bit of a woops in the video because the aa batteries were actually dead. i had obviously been going mental with the 8fps before hand. i also love the sound the nikon makes compared to the canons weak click sound

dryan2 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - its miniature compared to a fast tele zoom, like the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, btwjustpicked up my d300 yesterday, and grip today =)

Atlixco1984 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - great camera cant wait to get mine!

den0712 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - what do you think about the upcoming d700 dom?

dombower Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - first i thought it was a myth but i see it is offical now. I think it sounds really good. personally i dont have the need for a full frame. and the iso is soo good on the d300 already. it seems pretty much identical to the d300 apart from image sensor size. i personally would miss the extra distance of the aps-c size sensor gets me also vignetting gets worse with full frame. cant wait to see tests on it. but i am staying with the d300 for a good couple of years. thanks for asking

Guapwong Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Congratulations for the correct pronunciation of Nikon! lol...Great camera though, i have only D40 which is still great!

niburu2012 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Does the D300 also got a auto mode (or something like that)?Because I'm not really a pro with al the settings. And want to take some pictures fast without adjusting all the settings.

engjds Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - when testing shutter speed it looked like you had the lens cap on the d80 (maybe on auto as well), mine goes way faster then that, it is 3fps, not one like in the video.

dombower Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - if you want auto dont go for the d300 it is way to advanced for that. yes there is programme but then it sound like all the extra features on it would be wasted. what i suggest is getting the d80, great camera and also has auto and scene modes.and significantly cheeper. if you need auto dont buy a d300

dombower Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - i had it on shutter priority and thus having the lens cap on makes no difference. i always thought it sounded slower than 3fps. it seemed slower than the d40x when i had a play with that. i might get it sent to nikon to have a check of it

DJHOGHEAD Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Thanks!

RossNW Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - D700 will have 1 stop better ISO than D300 (ie 6400 as opposed to D300s 3200)
