**Important notice**I do say in the first screen that its a "developmental disability" I used that because that is what the general population uses to describe it... but as you can see the rest of the video goes to great lengths to show that it is not a "disability" in the terms of hindering his life, or disabling him from life. The images and clips in this video are from a period spanning 5 years. He is now 6 years old. About the cans and rubber mallet:Like many kids on the spectrum Andrew has Sensory Processing Disorder as well. He loves to smash things, its loud, it provides physical feedback and its fun.Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability we face today. The cause of Autism is unknown.1 in every 150 children in America has Autism. Our son is one of them. Our son is just like your child. He explores and is curious about the world around him.He plays, he runs, he laughs, he loves. He goes to school, he learns, he has friends.Sometimes he is serious and sometimes he feels alone...but he is never really alone. Our son has Autism. Our son is perfect.

Jul 26, 2008 - Hey there!I am working with autistic children in China and just wanted to say to you, that you have a lovely son. He seems to be nearly normal compared to the little chinese children in the orphanage. They are really cute, but mostly they have a lot of problems.I guess in China its even harder to have an autistic child, because the society blame you for your child. :(Many people here dont have any idea and give me advices like- hit the children when they dont want to do what they have to do

Jul 26, 2008 - Hi,My son is 2 and has SPD. He is a sensory seeker. i was wondering how your son was also diagnosed with autism. He seemed social. Our doctors said our son was not autistic because of how social he was. Just wondering. Thanks for the great video. Your son is so cute.

Kristine233 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Having the ability to talk has nothing to do with social skills, or Autism really. Thats a stereotype that parents liek me are trying to eliminate.

exBMRguy Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I would get another diagnosis, your cute son seems perfectly normal to me. What traits are the doctors using to diagnose autism?

Kristine233 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - You can tell by pictures that a child is "normal"? Thats some talent. lol

exBMRguy Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Well then perhaps you can actually answer the questions, why did you post the video? Are these signs in there are we should be looking for?instead of criticizing people perhaps you can educate a few of us, why else did you even bother posting?

Kristine233 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - If youlook back on previous comments I've answered this very question several times. The video shows what I want to show you, a very beautiful perfect child... despite the Autism. Media makes it sound like Autistic children are monsters. They aren't, they are perfect just the way they are. Thats the point. I could make a video highlighting all the "autistic traits" my son has, but that doesn't prove anything about Autistics and their abilities. Yes, abilities.

Kristine233 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I can also point out that if you know what to look for you will actually be able to pick things out from the pictures too... like spinning wheels, covering his ears, obsessed with cars and lots of imagery that shows both tactile aversion and sensory seeking. But not everyone is going to be able to pick that type of stuff out without being told. Which is also kinda my point... "normal" looking may not be as "normal" as you think. But who wants to be normal anyways, thats boring. lol

adamshull Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - That was the reason for my question. My son's docs/ot etc say NO to autism( which i always wondered about) bc they say he is too social. However, he flaps, spins, bangs on thinks has SPD and is delayed with language/has difficulty answering questions. So, i was wondering what social skills your son lacked. It just wasnt evident from the beginning clip.;-)

Kristine233 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - It can be hard to get a diagnosis before school age. They usually get a SPD when that young, mine did too. His social skills (or lack there of) didn't become really noticeable until he was school age and around peers. He doesn't initiate with peers and does mostly parallel play instead of playing with others. He also has a hard time knowing how to play with toys unless you show him how. (loves video games though!) He also does a lot of verbal stimming (screeching, noises etc)

adamshull Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - thanks.;-) that is helpful.

Jul 26, 2008 - Hi, I have three children all on the autism spectrum. It is important to remember that it is a spectrum, which means these beautiful kids come in as many varieties as normal children do. Some speak, some don't. Some can socialize, some can not. The diagnosis of autism is made when a child has a certain number or over a certain number of specifically listed symptoms. You can find these lists on Web sites like Autism Speaks.Kristine, you have a beautiful boy, thank you for sharing him with us.

markkremser Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - You have a beautiful son. He reminds me of my boy, Connor, who you can learn more about by doing a search for "Connor Kremser" or "autism angel." Its comforting to know that other parents are out there who love their special children as much as we do. Good luck.

Jul 26, 2008 - This video touched my heart since i have an autistic brother, your son reminded me of him so much, and its nice to know that there are families just like mine out there! please watch my video and tell me what you think!

Jul 26, 2008 - I have to thank you for this video. We have an autistic son who is now 11 years old and going back through photos and his life gives me great pleasure of seeing what he has accomplished despite doctors poor prognosis. Philip is developmentally delayed and was not diagnosed early enough to receive IBI (ABA) therapy. He is still sitting on a waitlist for this intensive behaviour therapy. Thank you for opening my heart and eyes to my own son.

Jul 26, 2008 - autistic people are just tards in normal people's skin. but they're still retards, sure they can figure out long division easily in their head, or memorize a whole movie but can that get you anywhere in life when you can't carry a conversation with a stranger and have to live in total confinement? NO!

notmypres22 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - damn... stop making kids then, you obviously failed once, then twice, why go for a third?

Kristine233 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Where are you getting your information about Autism? A 20 year old movie that generalizes like %1 of the Autistic community? Rainman is not a good representation of Autism. BTW, I guess you dont want to hear about the thousands and thousands of Autistic kids who grow up to be Autistic adults and live happy lives and raise families.

04Kitty01 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Sorry kiddo, if you want to get into a fight with adults go pick on your parents or mental ward tech. Nothing you can say will hurt me. If you had actually read anything here about autism, you would know that the children do not get diagnosed until they are 3 to 6 years old. No, I am not sorry I had them. They are a joy and make people smile every day. You should try it sometime.

723j32 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - this autism is different than AU before 1997. 2nd what we see here is brain damage cause be exposure to emr. 3rd we must focus on proper brain function. your child braim regenerates every 3 years. with help from up above overseeing the redevelp. the child over 2 year can recover. jamespowelson look for my website on yahoo search

723j32 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - well I am glad I can write an answer. other wine complain or talk bad. If this happen to your child you would want to read my research. people are looking for answers. There are no cures offered by medicine there are some treatments like detox this helps a lot,, but no cure all

mom2fivemonkeys Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Why would you say something like that? What is wrong with you? You disgust me, I have six children and each of them are unique. Sure I have three that fall in the ASD but I can't predicte the future and the reasearch is just now becoming important to those 'who deem it important' I am OCD and believe I was mildly Autistic as a child. The information wasn't out in the 70's and it still isn't out now. Be glad your mother had you so you could make a hateful statement like this.

mom2fivemonkeys Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I was replying to notmypres22 btw
