Aug 21, 2008 - First of all Beefheart was NOT a heavy drug user. Secondly i find it amazing that artists like Beefheart and Zappa were on a major record label. That could never happen in this supposed "indie rock" climate now. Drugs had nothing to do with him bowing out of music, he just chose to paint rather. I think if he were told of his influence on music he would be more than a little sardonic.
