I mean I understand it's always good to speak english and other languages that can be useful but what is the point of speaking it with your own people. This had a subliminal but powerful effect on the Indian populace. Tamil & Sanskrit are India's two classical languages and most of the people in India don't speak either! LOL...

Also, Tamil & Sanskrit are VERY DIFFICULT and in Ancient India (which included present day Pakistan), only the elite spoke Sanskrit.

Granted Hindi is spoken by about 300 to 350 million people in India, but that constitutes only 30 -35 % of the Indian population. Urdu may be the official language of Pakistan (which is a part of greater India) but Hindi is NOT the official language of India. English is the unifying language in India which is a legacy of the colonial Brits. We are grateful for that!
