The Invader is pretty focused but if you're referring to the tone being highly compressed then yup...the Powerball is tighter and very compressed. Two very different sounds. I like the Powerball but only for heavy chugging. I prefer the Invader for ringing chords and articulate tones. Also, it's a 6L6 vs EL34 issue too so it's apples and oranges really.

Aug 21, 2008 - engl! mesa's rectalfires are not that good...unless you play NU-metal stuff..only the first rectifiers up to serial No. 500 were good..actually amazing!!:D but it is impossible to get one since they are so rare. after that they changed transformers and fucker up the whole amp.the best you can get from mesa is quad, triaxis, 2:90 or 2:50 and all the mark models that are just insanely good! I play all sorts of styles, but I'm mainly looking for the typical Zakk Wylde sound from Black Label Society. My JCM800 is an original from 1983, so I don't want to mess with it and perform modifications etc. Will I achieve this sound with the Invader 150 over Marshall 1960 cabs?

Aug 21, 2008 - The Invader I played, with standard or whatever ENGL 412, had plenty of bottom end. I mean, how much do you need? And I don't scoop the mids. What I really liked about it is it didn't howl at you even facing right into it at decent volume. (I always face right into my cabs.) Something about it that just coats you in sound, with blanking the ears, in either high or low range.

Aug 21, 2008 - I own a Fireball, but I've played the Powerball too. Personally.. I prefer the Fireball. Better cleans and it has more balls in the ultra gain section. + more crispy tone. I'm using a Hughes&KEttner 4x12 vintage30 cab. SOunds great and very loud.
