BETTY DAVIS CD RE-ISSUES are out now!For more info, go here:http://brainwashed.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5962&Itemid=90http://www.lightintheattic.net/releases/bettydavis/Check out this great site:http://www.myspace.com/bettymabrydavisBetty Davis is the Grande Domme of Funk. She inspired husband Miles into reinventing Jazz and himself in '69. She combined the sounds of her friends Sly and Jimi to make intense FunkRock albums of her own. Her fierce sexual persona and aggro voice scared the record industry in the mid-70's. In doing so, she paved the way for such rebels as the Slits, Grace Jones, Nina Hagen, Madonna, Annie Lennox, Diamanda Galas, Boss Hogg, Joi (Gilliam), Nikka Costa, and Peaches. This is the title track from her 1975 masterpiece. Obviously Prince heard it, which inspired him to turn it into "Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6 in 1982. Learn more about this great lady and tell your friends. Here's a start: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:wwazqj5bojfa~T1(All rights reserved. ihatetrash2007 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - "Obviously Prince heard it, which inspired him to turn it into "Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6 in 1982. Learn more about this great lady and tell your friends"i don't agree with that, because prince's nasty gal was just vulgar, betty inferred, or implied, but never said.

funknroll Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - I was just referring to the name, the subject matter, and his similar focus on erotic Funk. She set a template that he expanded on.

ihatetrash2007 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - well maybe, and maybe not - betty wasn't really heard outside of New York and the big metro area's, Prince is from the whitest part of the country, and I don't find prince funkyi find him stiff and contrived. Betty was funk, non-stop - and believe it or not, it was the black folk that killed her career.the black press had a field day.

ihatetrash2007 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - well i don't know how i feel about that because apparently she got the worst deal i have ever heard of, she gets no royalties what-so-ever. so you got the right software, burn it and send the money str8 to her.

otishendryx Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - She has got to be one of the fiercest entertainers ever!!! She is sexy without it being overdone...This is because she is comfortable in her own skin. There is no fabrication about what she is about!!!

zeusfiction Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - In response to ihatetrash2007, what you say is about right. I grew up in NYC and while in high school, not one person knew who she was. I met only one person later on who knew of her and had seen her in concert. That brother was a god in my eyes for having seen her. In my opinion, 3 of the greatest FUNK albums.

Wikicrel74 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Here in Cleveland, OH it was the same, not many people knew about her. I used to try and jam her stuff at parties and no one would dance to her music. She was my sex symbol back in 1973, too hot!!!

flirtydiva Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - I love this song! Thanks to whom ever introduced me to Betty Davis

neoconkiller101 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Betty Davis live on baby! See this what i like in my sexy funk joints, just implied an inferred sexual images. This way it leaves a little something for the imagination.

bluesborn Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Classic song from a classic album. This stuff is so raw and organic.

djangobelgo Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Whoa, I'm a healthy big hetero muscle man who lifts his weights every day, but when I hear this woman sing, I become a little scared boy (with a hardon, though). The sheer power and lust... Whoa.

funkintelekey Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - as the story goes, she and miles davis were married. then supposedly she did some music with hendrix and her and miles divorced shortly after...she was crucial in miles' music after she introduced him to funk...

DaveSquarey08 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Down and dirty funk from a lady who was one of the most sexy performers of the genre...great stuff!
