By the way... The beginning of the video is true footage of the April 3, 1974 tornado from WHIO-TV. WHIO was one of the first television stations in the world to have their own live doppler radar. This was taken about 30 minutes before the F-5 hit Xenia, OHI am trying out a new program I have on the computer. This is a generic doppler radar promo I made by using cut and paste features.

Sep 7, 2008 - Love the Music! Wonder how much a VIPIR Radar costs. Regular Doppler Radar costs between 300,000 and 1,000,000 dollars!

romerofan123 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Your soooooooooooooooooooooo right! Conventional Radar is crap

romerofan123 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - That is true. I overlooked that. Thanks!

crackertheberdie Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Where did you get those VIPIR videos?Link?

crackertheberdie Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Where did you get the one an 0:56?

TheFritter04 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - The music is great... I wish I remembered the title of it... VIPIR is not a new kind of radar (for the most part) but a way the computer processes the information for the viewer. Some of Baron's new equipment like Dual Polar radar is a brand new kind of radar. There are only 5 Dual Polar radars on the planet and the NWS will have them nationwide within the next 5 to 10 years.

jonrk74 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - That was Gil Whitney. He was credited for saving lives in Xenia with that broadcast.

romerofan123 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Well its true!

romerofan123 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Whats that program you were using called?

crackertheberdie Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Its called "VIPIR"

romerofan123 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Is he still Alive?

romerofan123 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Could you imagine if someone had a VIPIR radar and saw the Greensburg Tornado Echo? The Rotation Size Would Be Huge!

KDAY24 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Does the radar system we have here in the valley, have all of the available features shown in this video?

TheFritter04 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Keep in mind that Baron VIPIR is not a new kind of radar, it is just a computer processing system that places the NWS radar images into a 3-D display. Some of the physical Baron radar systems (like dual-pol) do have a much better physical reading on precip and would have been amazing but we do not (and should) have that in the Miami Valley yet.

TheFritter04 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - I will never be 100% sure but I have to go with Yes... Some of the features you see in this video are for promo use only b/c if any station were in 3D the entire time, people that do not understand jack about the weather would get upset that they can not follow along.

jockorama90 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - I remember the opening clip of the Xenia tornado. I was a kid watching channel 7 -Dayton with my mom and Gil Whitney(? - the wooley worm guy) interrupted Andy Griffith(?) with the now infamous weather warning and radar video. - Wow.

horseluverxxxx1234 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - what does the black in the storms mean?? i want to know!!! lol it looks kinda scary it is like a f5 indication or something??

crackertheberdie Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!

crackertheberdie Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - LOL no, radar can't detect tornadoes 100% for sure, and certinly cant tell the F scale rating of a tornado. The black means there is a very high DBZ level, which means there is some very heavy rain and possibly hail

doofus72 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - Sadly, no. Whitney died November 4, 1982, at the age of 42 of Colon Cancer.

Superbook4Eva Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - 0:42-0:43... is that Hurricane Andrew?

hen7713 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - TMJ4 weather plus out here in kenosha still uses it

hen7713 Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - It can detect rotation in storms as an example are those things that are spinning in circles

jakubandmatt Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - new doppler radars can, at least ours. they put up some magnifying thing and Black means winds coming oward the radar and red is going away. there is black in the middle, radar connot detect what is happening in black because of the TORNADO that is happening there. ours is ALWAYS 100% accurate for tornados

gunnlover Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - This is simply Baron VIPIR and FasTrac in action
