Aug 20, 2008 - I saw Albert in Toronto in 1994 and got to talk to him for about 1hr, what an amazing guy ! ! !

sm7tjc Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - He used "his own" tuning, extremely heavy strings, and struck them by snapping hard with the nails.

lfilipesouza9119 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - what tuning is "his own"??I'd like to know...o/

mothrastewart Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - i think he blows a load in his pants around 3:30!

Aug 20, 2008 - To 12jetdriver55: Albert collins gets a good tone because he plays with his fingers and not a pick.

YankeesSuck18 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Collin's signature tuning is Em. So when he plays all of the strings open, he got an Em chord.

Aug 20, 2008 - Remember Him in "Adventures in babysitting"? 'Nobody leaves this place without singin' the blues.' Classic!

lighteningboy Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - That is because Telecasters rule the Earth. He used his volume knob alot. He would crank the gain until he got feedback, then dial it back just enough to stop it. Then start shredding blues riffs like a God.

vitovitale Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Looking here at 1993 July issue of Guitar Player... Albert tunes in F minor and uses a capo to handle different keys. His tuning is F,C,F Ab,C,F. So he tunes up a half a step and the A and D Strings up 3 1/2 steps.. When think about it probably a great approach for playing blues!!!

Fordz Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - So a capo on second fret would make it G minor? Did he have to retune for major keys? I don't think I'd dare tune up 3 1/2 steps, I'd snap all me strings! :p

kongels Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Any idea what gauge strings he uses? :)

vitovitale Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I don't think one would have to retune. Should work fine.. give it a go.

woodygould Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - It was an even more astonishing stunt, pre-"cordless". I saw Albert in the late 70's a few times in Southern California; he had a roadie helping with a reel of a hundred or so feet of cable, as he walked off the stage, through the audience, and, once, out the door of the club into the street, playing all the way!

Aug 20, 2008 - TASTY!!!!!!!! fuckin A

ndoumos Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - my guitar doesn't scream and cry like that! Albert was the best!

SpaxterBack Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - :-) Woody I fondly remember seeing Albert do that a few times in the 80's walking down about 40 stairs in a local night club and right on to the main street and just wailing away while the band was still cooking on the stage. People on the street were like WTF is this we have to see more of it and followed him back up the stairs (kinda like following the Pied Piper) and paid the $20 cover or whatever it was to get in and I don't think anybody was disappointed.

razberyjamdeltaV Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - godamnit he had so much damn talent and soul. i think that's the formula for a kicktastic blues player anyway. whatever it is he's got it.maybe it's the hair...no, i think it's the soul and talent.5 stars!

bluesyly Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - tuning up 3 1/2 steps?doesn't that break his strings?.

Mrmaniac15765 Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Albert Collins is probably my fav other than SRV. he had the blues alright. id say he is the best blues player ever, to bad he died right before i was born. He has influneced me to play guitar. BIP(blues in peace)

wrathfully Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Fender in the early 80's did a signature tele for about $1800?. Saw him numerous times in the 70's out in the street talking to any girl who happen to walk by while blastin...those Nebraska girls had no idea of what to make of a scary lookin black man just screaming on that tele; it was a hilarious scene. Back then cover was $3-4 and after 11pm just $1-2 and that when things started cookin.
