I dropped the grass, and in my hand was an angry preying mantis. I threw that fucker, and he had wings and flew in the grill of a nearby pick up. Now I'm careful before picking grass for any reason.

Oct 11, 2008 - While it's true that a mantis COULD take a nip at you, its VERY unlikely for them to. That kid must have been messing with it, and then let it CHEW on him. Besides, they kill and eat other dangerous insects. Such as black widows, for instance. The impact damage alone is sometimes enough for a full-grown widow to perish from.

It would have also been good to know that they don't savagely attack human hands, bitting and scratching, as I just found out:))... Stupid me... I ran all the way home, grabbed a box and a stick and ran back to get the bug so no one will kill it. Then I struggled to get it in an brought it in my garden... felt good :D

Oct 11, 2008 - I cannot tell you how unimaginably cute I think this video is. I used to raise various praying mantises from eggs to adulthood to death. They are remarkably charismatic little creatures with tons of curiosity. Something about them almost seems "sentient."
