The Typhoon class submarine is a type of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine deployed by the Soviet Navy in the 1980s. With a maximum displacement of 48,000 tonnes, Typhoons are the largest class of submarine ever built. The NATO reporting name stems from the use of the word "typhoon" (тайфун) by Leonid Brezhnev in a 1974 speech while describing a new type of nuclear ballistic missile submarine. The Typhoon class was developed under Project 941 as the Russian Akula class (Акула), meaning shark. It is sometimes confused with other submarines, as Akula is the name NATO uses to designate the Russian Project 971 Shchooka-B (Щука-Б) class attack submarines.

Jul 7, 2008 - first of all, no SLBM is armed with 12 warheads, usually at least half to 80% are fake - just a false target (at least so are Russian Topol and Bulava missiles, I guess us are the same). And as far as I know, only US and Russia use MIRVs on their SLBM (ICBM MIRVs were prohibited in 80s)then, at least 1/3 to 1/2 of them will be probably destroyed by anti missile ground based systems (patriot, s400, etc)and finally, both us and russia are probably capable to wipe any country in any conditions.

Jul 7, 2008 - The Typhoon is older than half the Ohio's and the Ohio will be 10x harder to be taken down becuase they are guarded by 2 688i SSNs in war time the 688i SSNs are much better than any Russian SSN and the Seawolf and Astute are even better the 688i SSNs
