Jul 7, 2008 - There's probably as much good music as in 80's, but there's just a lot more shit.
AmericanDreamer59 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Music reflects the times. These days, I am uncertain. Is this how music has progressed over the years... black guys that dress like pimps with baggy pants, wearing gaudy gold chains and ugly jewelry shouting loudly with a ghetto attitude about killing police, selling drugs, pimping hoes, going to jail and fighting in gangs! There are no musical instruments or a band playing along with them. Their lyrics are a BAD influence on the black youth that want to be like these morons! Some progress!!!
AmericanDreamer59 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Modern rap, pop and groups like: Back St Boys, In Sync,Brittney Spears, etc., are all fake. They do not write their own songs, do not know how to play instruments and they even lip sync to the lyrics. The music producers crank out these jokers quicker than a person can change a pair of dirty underwear just to fool the youth and make money! They are here today and gone tomorrow. None have any true lasting power. To compare that with Jethro Tull is ludicrous! Many college kids will even agree!
AmericanDreamer59 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - I go to various college bars. I have noticed they play more classic rock music including Jethro Tull. When ever I hear a rap or hip hop song come on, it was usually played by a "wigger" (a white guy trying to talk and act black) or a black person that looks like he just came out of prison! They are very each to spot... wearing a hood or dourag, walking like they are tough, very baggy pants with untied shoe laces. In short they look like a joke and out of place in a mostly white bar. Wake up!!
AmericanDreamer59 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Since I have no control over the type of music youngsters play in a college bar, I decided to be open minded and give rap & pop a chance. In 4 months, I heard popular songs from literally every established rap & pop artist. CONCLUSION: Out of almost 600 different songs, there were ONLY 3 that appealed to me. NOT GOOD! Most of it sounded bad and I was not able to relate to any of it.Aqualung is worlds apart from any of this modern music which can't stand the test of time!

danpaolangeli Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Im glad to see some decent conversation about the industry. Unfortunately, the music of today reflects the common youth as much as any other generation's music defined theirs. Now, instant gratification, low standards of entertainment and a complete submission to pop culture has morphed music and children into mindless garbage. Any idiot with a computer can record their whining and second rate musicianship. I don't know about you, but i'm making it a life goal to counteract this as much as i can
mynameisnotalfredo Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - god bless ian anderson. rap is so repetitive and the worst part of it is that it uses classic rock riffs to make it sound any good. why don't we just cut out the middle man and listen to classic rock already!! case in point 'come with me' by some rapper that i cannot remember
garzaeduardo Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - ya know, it's so easy to be closed minded.everybody got "it" from somewhere.admit it,it's the people associated with RAP that you don't like.i'm sure Ian had influences that are not happy with his out takes.but,it's all good.
danpaolangeli Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - You may not like the style of rap, but you picked a bad example. Come with me by Puff Daddy featured mr. Paige himself. It was a well done song, and Puffy is possibly the best rap producer in existence. BIG's Ready to Die album was produced by Puffy and it is probably the heaviest, most in your face album of the early nineties. If you have no respect for the pioneers of other genres, you are just another following the crowd saying yours is better because you need to feel original. Poor argument.
mynameisnotalfredo Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - i am fully aware that jimmy page (note spelling) appeared on come with me, but i certainly do not condone it because at the time record sales were down

AmericanDreamer59 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Ok, you are correct about Puff Daddy (whom I consider to be a flashy pimp anyway, but that's besides the point). However, out of ALL the rap artists, how many others can you name that are true pioneers in modern Rap genre?Having respect for music pioneers in different genres is one thing, but appreciating and relating to their style of music is a completely different matter!Rap and Hip Hop simply does not appeal to me nor would I ever buy their CDs or play those songs in a bar jukebox.
AmericanDreamer59 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Of course music reflects the changing times! The internet completely changed how people can get access to songs.Today, a mental retard can literally produce and market a Rap album on his home computer. As far as making it "your life's goal to counteract this as much as you can", I wish you the best of luck. For myself, I will NOT listen to screaming or loud noise and focus my energy on more important personal issues to improve myself.I get a thrill out of listening to Locomotive Breath!

Jul 7, 2008 - Thriplebuttix: DON'T BE IGNORANT ALL YOUR LIFE! If you read the posts carefully, somebody was stupid enough to compare a black pimp (Puff Daddy)with classic rock music.Read what he said and then respond using a little common sense!!We all know it's a joke and were replying to his comments. Locomotive Breath as well as the album Aqualung is fantastic. Finally, you do NOT need to post your message twice. We all understand where you're coming from. Everybody has their opinion.

Jul 7, 2008 - Cambridge University did some research on people who listen to rap and, surprise, surprise, found that listeners had a level of intelligence "that was substantially below the mean"....Pouf Daddy is an idiot, and so are his "listeners". Please stop desecrating this Jethro Tull page by even mentioning the Pouf Daddy idiot here

Jul 7, 2008 - if we want to talk about pioneers, rap is not new, it goes back thousands of years it was chanting to tell stories, and this song is not rap and comparing it to Puff is like saying George Dubya and genius in the same sentence. Enjoy the music for what it is, and should you like rap, rock or elevator music enjoy it for yourself

Jul 7, 2008 - lmao. Yeah I'm the dick, I trust you. *rolls eyes* BTW, I do listen allman brothers.. right along in the same playlists containing rap and metal and goth and country and r&b and techno and folk and classical and instrumental and oldies and punk and electronica and progressive and experimental and alternative and ambient and a ton more. It has nothing to do with the year i was born, it has to do with me being able to appreciate art on a larger scale than your primitive brain can even fathom.
