Jascha Heifetz plays Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35: I. Allegro moderato*NOTE: This was from a movie, so Heifetz skips a LOT of the first movement due to time constraints. He skips nearly half of the piece, and so does the orchestra. So please don't ask for second or third movements because I do not have them. You also get to see a bit of Heifetz acting at the end. A great treat!Conductor: Fritz ReinerThis is my favorite rendition of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. I think Heifetz played a bit faster than in his recording.

Jul 26, 2008 - "Greatest violin player"? Maybe so, maybe so, although Niccolo Paganini might have some claim on that title. Unfortunately there are no recordings of Paganini, there are only his influential compositions.

Jul 26, 2008 - I am from Vienna and I think it all depends on the performance of the artist seen life. Nothing can be compared to a life appearence - recordings are very nice to get impressions but the rssonance of a life appeareance in one a concert room are also a physical experience.

Jul 26, 2008 - Joachim has recordings.

AbsoluteZ3R0 Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - I should've elaborated on that last comment: Although the recordings Joachim made were when he was really old and on horrible and primitive recording technology, it's still obvious that Heifetz was at the very least far technically superior to Joachim.

Jul 26, 2008 - woah Reiner stared at Heifetz like a hawk towards the end. Seriously if I were Reiner, I would have a heart attack if the orchestra was gonna fall apart just cuz Heifetz was going crazily fast.
