Oct 6, 2008 - Great clip! What a rhythm section - Mel Lewis was, and is, the man. Oh for some decent jazz on Uk tv these days....Thanks for this wonderful music!

bfotk Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - Mulligan's memory might have been okay. Perhaps the show was filmed (or taped) and never broadcast. TV wasn't THAT different back then.

Oct 6, 2008 - An absolute classic! Why can't we have such shows telecast these days. Today's idiot box is mostly quite idiotic.Bansuriraj

Oct 6, 2008 - you guys are right. it hurts to think that i'm 19 years old and all my life when i turn on the tv i see pop culture. it's enough to make me throw up and then go play bari until my lips fall off. I envy the folks who saw this on tv...It makes me sick to think of all i missed out on, and even more sick to see what contemporary society views as music and talent. :(Jazz will outlast them all though.

Oct 6, 2008 - Gerry was the quitessence of kool !

valvetrom Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - You are right, Jazz is treated by TV ,Radio like dirt ; . When I learnt my Valve trombone all I had were my LPs, but I saw the 4tet live in Munich.: The Mike croaked out. Gerry stopped his group in mid chorus, then waited like zen monchs, finally after 5 minutes a technician came installed a new mik,Gerry nodded with his horn, they continued exactly where they had stopped, we were spell bound.

Oct 6, 2008 - Ben Webster must have been the guy that the LITTLE RICHARD sax guys were emulating. The LR sax soloist had identical tone (but probably not the chops). Sax in "Keep a Knockin" is very revealing.

Oct 6, 2008 - Cesari, you may have liked to be his bitch, but when he got drunk he could be terrible. So watch out what you would have been wishing for...

Ianmc26 Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - i love ben's obvious reaction to gerry's quoting of 'cottontail'.

BlockChordsRed Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - Dinah presented these musicians in a very respectful manner, but it's interesting that during that time period, it seemed there was nearly always a very 'serious' pipe-smoking host giving elaborate explanations as to why jazz was worthy of your viewing time--for three minutes.

jazzmonster123 Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - dropouts on the track but still wonderful. mulligan's solo on "who's got rhythm" is marvelous.
