Jul 7, 2008 - why did you put a negative on my comment
caerleon87 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Sir, you are one of the VERY few people that actually know what they are talking about on this subject. Also, all you "self diagnosed" people out there, sorry but you do not have asperger's at all. The very same deficits that make up asperger's, would make it impossible for you to recognise it in yourself, in the same way that a person that has "delusions" cannot "self diagnose" themselves, because to them, the "delusions" are completely real. They are only "delusions" to the onlooker

Jul 7, 2008 - This why when i was diagnosed [separately by a clinical psychologist, and also a consultant psychiatrist] i thought they were wrong, and it took ages for me to realise that, yes, these professionals DID know what they were talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jul 7, 2008 - more boys have aspergers syndrome than girls do.

Jul 7, 2008 - i think there should be a cure for this mental illness!
AmnAbdulla9 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - autism is not a mental illness
princesspeach1229 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - then what is it? what do you call it?
AmnAbdulla9 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - it's a disorder
mtnorsea Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - I think that this disorder is very important and we could really learn from it. If you like too laugh at the autistic kids at school then you have no idea what im talking about. The autistic brain is very amazing and they are very smaart and just WOW!!

Jul 7, 2008 - Hi guys I have something to say. Normally, you parents helped your children develop with therapy right? well, I didn't and for some bizarre reason, I'm normal, but the way your child grows up effects him or her psychologically so I'd advise parents to remain in one community until they become adults because moving from place to place will only cause mental affliction.
yutokaitune Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - True, but that doesn't apply to everyone. I'm high functioning autistic and I can honestly tell you that it's not as difficult as you're making it seem. I never had any assistance and I socialize moderately. It's all psychological. One tip I can give you is before even interacting, imagine a situation where someone wants to talk or ask a question and ponder what the correct response should be. I do this all the time. I plan entire conversations out in my head before actually experiencing them.

Jul 7, 2008 - Have my video on Asperger's its called "In My Mind" just click on my acount name and its on the frount page.
jmbirk Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - As a sufferer of PDD-NOS (essentially undifferentiated autistic spectrum disorder), I'm not sure I agree with that. Not a day goes by in which I don't try and fathom what my life would be like had I not been born like this; if I could be cured. Perhaps I was better off before I even knew the name of my own psyché; before I had a name to curse; to lower my life's expectations. How much of "me" would cease to exist without my disorder? I'm not sure, but It's worth ending this.

Jul 7, 2008 - If only all parents were as devoted to their children as this guy.

Jul 7, 2008 - i have Asperger, diagnosed 5 years ago. Ever since i discovered the benefits, i totally feel like i have superpowers. I found a way to work with it. Studied NLP and applied it to myself. I still have my weird quircks, but i love em:)You sir, are an awesome dad!
bush0165 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - I have Asperger's and I am constantly trying to act normally and be social. It's something that I actually can pull off most of the time - almost like playing a role, but it's so tiring, I get exhausted by being around people and need to be left alone at certain times of the day and I need routine to comfort me. I agree with "jmbirk," if I could be normal, even if I had to lose 50 IQ points (to attain a normal 100), I would - ignorance is bliss.
bush0165 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - hah, yeah I do that too (and I have AS), but mostly before making a phone-call, those dialogues are easier to predict and control.
yutokaitune Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - yes, they are. however what i can't quite understand is why I only prefer to talk to certain people. Say for example, adults and intelligent adolescents are easy to communicate with, but when I run into regular children who are stupid and rebellious, I ignore them because I can't really connect emotionally.
yutokaitune Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - hi, Im asbergers and I just have to say that love and acceptance is not the only way, but it should be. I grew up with a corrupted family that is filled with despair. My mother neglected me for the most part, but my father did do his best to assist me, even if he was far away. Also, I constantly moved from place to place. Always transitioning. It had an effect on me. I matured faster because of experience.
yutokaitune Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - even if there was a cure, I'd refuse to take it.
ischlopischlo Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - I believe in progress, with help of medication if necessary. But the idea of an autism "cure" is just.... wrong. It's discriminating because autism is a part of who a person is, his/her personality. Also, diversity is what separates mankind from primitive monkeys, and diversity of minds is included in that. Why I think the ideal and strive to be "normal"(more correctly, [averege]) is just insane.
jmbirk Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Diversity exists just as much in animals. We just don't notice it because we're not thinking how the animals do.I really don't know if a "cure" is wrong. I can only imagine who I'd be without it--I can't fully experience it. I think it's worth a try. I voluntarily would cure myself if there weren't any...say, brain-damaging side effects.

Jul 7, 2008 - not all people with autism and aspergers dont look different to people without it... :)
