Oct 11, 2008 - I have found that the main difference between the fiddle and the violin has to do with the number of teeth of the person playin' it.

Oct 11, 2008 - There is only one difference between the fiddle and the violin, its only acceptable to spill your beer on a fiddle lol.

Oct 11, 2008 - There are two differences between the fiddle and the violin. The strings and bridge are different.
Kelnx Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Violin and Fiddle are the same thing. Violin is the term from Roman-based languages and Fiddle is from Germanic languages. Today, the main distinction is that if the instrument is played in a more classical format, it is called a Violin. If played in a more folk style, it is called a Fiddle. Many fiddle players will alter the bridge to be flat to allow for quicker string changing.

Oct 11, 2008 - fiddles and violins are the same thing. sometimes fiddle players sand their bridges down, so that playing 2 strings at once (double stops) are easier. The Strings are not necessarily different, but can be. Regardless, the instrument is the same (one can change bridges easier than one can strings, and neither are part of the intrument, they are part of the "set-up", which effect the intonation, sound, and feel of the instrument. Its mostly a question of taste, style, and r'epertoire.

Oct 11, 2008 - the difference between a fiddle and a violin is the music that you play on them.. it's the same instrument!! irish music and country music is when they call it a fiddle and classical music is for the violin!!i was wondering does anyone know if it is possible for a fidde player (me) to learn how to play guitar cause i don't know if i will be able too...i'm afraid it will mess up my fiddle playing because of the position your hand has to be in!!!!!
