SHINDIG! #1, aired: September 16, 1964 -- part 3of3====================================1. The Righteous Brothers - "This Little Girl Of Mine"2. Alan Sues (comedian doing an imitation of Liberace)3. Bobby Sherman - "Hello Dolly" (duet with Shindig dancer Maria Ghava) 4. The Everly Brothers - "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo"5. Sam Cooke - "Blowing In The Wind"Finale: The Everly Brothers and Sam Cooke - "Lucille"==========================================Shindig! was a rock 'n' roll series that ran from September 16, 1964 through January 8, 1966 on the ABC network.Shindig! was created and produced by Jack Good who had previously produced rock 'n' roll TV shows in his native Britain. There, he perfected his style of fast-paced rock music programing. In 1962, Good produced a pilot for American TV. The pilot, titled "Young America Swings the World," eventually became the blueprint for Shindig! Most of the top American and British rock/pop acts of the mid-1960s appeared on Shindig!. The British performers often appeared in segments taped in the U.K.Shindig! was different from previous U.S. rock 'n' roll programs. It featured non-stop music that, in most cases, was only interrupted by the commercial breaks.Shindig! started a trend in television which could probably best be described as "rock 'n' roll...with go-go dancers."

BKW1951 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - You've got to be kidding! The Righteous Brothers were on the same level as Jan and Dean. They only had a couple of hits, and they couldn't ever sing 1/1000th as well as The Everly Brothers! And if you want great soul music, listen to anything from Sam Cooke, not these lame pretenders.

Jul 7, 2008 - two hits eh? one of them, the most played radio song of all time .voted the greatest production ballad ever.also bobby hatfield singing unchained melody largely regarded as the most beautiful love song of all time.two hits to die for i d say.you really are wrrrong.being white singing like they did worked against them ......love from a black marine.x
BKW1951 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Who voted Unchained Melody the most beautiful love song of all time? I admit this was a good tune, but echo chambers and studio effects made them sound much better than they really were. I don't know if being white worked against them or not. But, just listen to "All I have to do is Dream" by The Everlys, or check out on Youtube the songs "Teenage Sonata" and "Bring it on Home to Me" by Sam Cooke. But I do salute you as a Marine. Stay well and safe!

Jul 7, 2008 - Awesome! I think they have a glow that few others had. No matter if they were white, blue, yellow, pink or whatever. I just love their magic on stage. Thanks for the upload!

Jul 7, 2008 - Boy, TV sure has changed. I was 4 at the time and don't remember this but seeing Sam Cooke on his final TV appearance, the Righteous Bros, who were pretty dynamic-yes BKW, with or without echo-it showed the older folks that the kids music was a powerful language that stemmed from many genres and cultures. As hokey as one of it looks, it makes for a rather historic type visual.

Jul 7, 2008 - The Everlies and Sam Cooke were the best, and the Righteous Bros were not half bad either.

Jul 7, 2008 - This Little Girl is an Everly Brothers song.
doglvr895 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Actually --- it's a Ray Charles song. Both the Everly's and The Righteous Brothers borrowed it from Ray.

Jul 7, 2008 - Shindig was on Wednesday nights, correct? hokey as it seemed back in the day, it was excellent entertaiment by a brit, unlike the fest which passes itself as entertaiment these days, "American Idol," which is also produced by a brit. There were no Simon Cowells back then, but at least this televison program showed the rich diversity of American music, something that is rare now. We got our first glimse of Bobby Sherman and Billy Preston back in the day there.
Waldo99 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - The song was performed by Gary US Bonds, The Everly Brothers, Ray Charles & The Righteous Brothers, amongst others.

Jul 7, 2008 - The show originally aired on ABC's Wednesday night schedule at 8:30pm(et) during the 1964-'65 season, right after "THE PATTY DUKE SHOW". When Mickey Rooney's self-titled sitcom was cancelled in January 1965, the show expanded to an hour [8:30-9:30pm(et)], and was successful enough for the network to split it into two half-hours (a la "PEYTON PLACE") on Thursday and Saturday nights [7:30pm(et)] in the fall of '65. The ratings for both, though, caused its cancellation in January 1966.
