In the film JFK, Oliver Stone made up a bunch of "facts" that were'nt true and passed them off as facts. An example is Oswald was a lousy shot. Not true he scored 48/50 in his Marine sniping book. But the general public believe it as a fact because of the movie. The same thing could be going on here.
