In this segment from a tape entitled, "A Tribute to Muhammad Asad" released probably ten years ago by the IIS (Islamic Information Service), he discusses why monotheistic religions, specifically Islam, originated from the desert. He also speaks about the richness of Bedouin culture, and the incorrect idea that bedouins are barbarians or uncivilized people.

Oct 11, 2008 - I would be willing to upload all three tapes, which are about an hour long each, however since it is still being sold, I don't want to upset its publishers. On the other hand, if the publishers gave me their permission to upload the tapes, that's another story.

Oct 11, 2008 - Regretably, Weiss of Lemberg is a classic example of the beatten-down Jew who turns away from his own God only to attempt to be accepted by another people desperately seeking the love of the gentile instead of himself. Pity his self-ignorance

Pity his self-ignorance"Peace,HIS OWN GOD? Hehehe!!! He has renounced a TRIBAL god for the ONE and ONLY DEITY there is!
MAD4MALAGATANI Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - "a TRIBAL god" and your point is what? ... that islam is some kind of tribe of peaceful priests? I think not.

Oct 11, 2008 - Is it just me or did Mr.Asad says in the beginning of the video: "All monotheistic religions started in the desert".But Christianity came from somewhere in Palestine or Syria not from the desert Arabia. The oldest church in the world is located somewhere in that area also.I've surprised no one commented about this before. Video has been up for a year, I'm sure some Christians have seen it and realized something was wrong with that statement...
qahtani Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Bethlehem is bordered by the Judean Desert, there's nothing wrong with his statement.
trt0123 Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Never been there,Bethlehem, but Iwas under the impression that most Israel/Palestine area is green with valleys, mountains, rivers, lakes.just like coastal+central parts of Syria+LebanonAccording to Bethlehem page on Wikipedia, "Bethlehem has a Mediterranean climate"Is Bethlehem really a desert with fine sand and sandDunes ? {Or is it similar to "Syrian desert" (AKA Badiat-Asham) which is mostly arid+semi-arid plateau composed of rocky limestone, rather than a true sandy desert}thanks

qahtani Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - It's pretty obvious he's talking about the desert in a general sense, so I'm not going to continue splitting hairs here.
12thooImam Says:
Oct 11, 2008 - Well..Sinai,Negev and Petra are all deserts and connected to Arabian desert and there were no boarders that time and people were nomadic people . maybe this is the westerners concept of the middle east
