If someone has watched Garanca's video and she likes it, why should she wrote about Ludwig,Verrett etc.?What is the real meaning of your namedropping;everybody can do it. Can't you give people the freedom to enjoy a new great voice if she founds one? Garanca is one of the greatest of our time, I hope you can see & hear her live performances.

Jul 7, 2008 - It appears that you misunderstood my post. My statements had nothing to do with negating or praising Ms. Garanča's ability or refuting personal opinion. I was replying to UNHStudly5's barb--ergo "RE:'for a mezzo'"--which implied that Ms. Garanča's range was somehow indicative of a limited range characteristic in mezzo-soprano voices. As rebuttal, I dropped the names of several mezzo-soprano voices whose [usable] vocal ranges far exceed(ed) that of Ms. Garanča.

Jul 7, 2008 - Yes, I misunderstood your post. I'm sorry! That's the problem with me communicating in foreign languages. About the singers you mentioned, I'm not an expert, but are you sure that they really exceeded Garancas range? I'm just curious, I don't mind if it's true, because I don't take singing as a sport, but I have heard Garanca on stage few times, and I was surprised about her range and dynamics (ppp->fff). BTW thanks to your favorites, I found "Audra McDonald-My Man's Gone Now" Thanks!

Jul 7, 2008 - While Ms. Garanča's tone is quite lovely, her vocal range, as used in performance, is nothing particularly noteworthy.I'd recommend looking for various recorded performances of all these singers here on YouTube. Start with Marian Anderson's "Casta diva", "Der Tod und das Maedchen"--such stark contrast! The amazing rest shouldn't be too difficult to find and appreciate as well.Enjoy!

Jul 7, 2008 - Es una mezzo mas bien mediocre,no tiene nada especial su voz,y su actuacion...fria como las patas de un muerto Me quedo con mis divas gordas de antaño

Jul 7, 2008 - Una voce poco fa was by Callas was the definitive version. This lacks passion, she is so worried in getting all the technical part right, that she doesn't understand what she is singing. It's a shame.Singing must come from inside.

operaticxingenue Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I'm sorry but her singing bore me to death.
