Oct 12, 2008 - Beautiful. This man really has a compromise with the thing he's doing. I saw him playing in Barcelona 5 months ago and it was unbeliveable, the music he plays with his band nowadays. He was one of the greatest players and will be until he dies.

Oct 12, 2008 - This is one of the most WONDERFUL Jazz recordings I have heard! It is SUCH a sweet, gentle treatment of "My One & Only..." with so much intricate, punchy improvisation tastefully woven together.. and the backing musicians also perform BEAUTIFULLY! Thank you for posting!!!

Oct 12, 2008 - Love this song both by Coltrane w/ Johnny Hartman and this great version by Sonny. Thank you Sukapura for all the fantastic videos you have posted on YouTube. Your taste in jazz is just tops. Where do you get all this stuff, anyway?

Oct 12, 2008 - How can that be when Rollins is still around?
mambojazz1 Says:
Oct 12, 2008 - Joshua Redman is a kid masquerading as a man. If Sonny Rollins is a man, Joshua Redman is still a fetus with no concept of what the real world is like~

Oct 12, 2008 - joshua redman is nothing compared to sonny. use your ears, juicyboy.

Oct 12, 2008 - He plays so amazingly, that you dont have to know this song to hear the lyrics. The phrasing is just beautiful. Like the short note at 0:25, you can hear a word through that sound. What that word is, probably waries, but its something beautiful, especially if you are in Love ;) Sonny is the king!

Oct 12, 2008 - I saw this very group in 1983 at Jacob's Pillow in Massachusetts. The Don't Stop the Carnival was the biggest blowout of my entire life. Unfortunately so far I can't find it done like that by Sonny on youtube. If I could I'd be very happy because I could get those moments back. It made a big difference when he used great musicians like DeJohnette and Cranshaw.

billes335 Says:
Oct 12, 2008 - oh seriously stop arguing about it...Joshua Redman is one hell of a sax player and so was Rollins. There is no better in this discussion because they are both equally talented in their own amazing ways.
billes335 Says:
Oct 12, 2008 - It's really like comparing Trane to Rollins....you can compare but saying one is better than the other is insane. Rollins was more feeling and playing while improvising over the melody and Trane was more theory oriented and they are/were beautiful people
nubiantgirl Says:
Oct 12, 2008 - Sonny Rollins is the greatest ever on Tenor. You see so many sax players switch up and play all the saxes. But Sonny's focus on the tenor sax has made him an unmistakable GIANT among sax players. That is what I love about Sonny...you always know the sound that you are going to get. Also his improv is out of this world. As a tenor player myself, I choose to follow after sonny and only play the tenor. I have played all the saxes, but now feel at home on the tenor.Love ya Sonny!!!!
Saxyman14 Says:
Oct 12, 2008 - Completely different. But, I can tell you, without Sonny, there would be no Joshua Redman. You can't say anyone is the greatest living anything.
